Story
The chartered Zarathustra Company had it all their way. Their charter was for a Class III uninhabited planet, which Zarathustra was, and it meant they owned the planet lock stock and barrel. They exploited it, developed it and reaped the huge profits from it without interference from the Colonial Government. Then Jack Holloway, a sunstone prospector, appeared on the scene with his family of Fuzzies and the passionate conviction that they were not cute animals but little people.

Story
Life is hard enough for a teenage girl in 1950s suburbia without having a mother who may—or may not—be a witch. A single mother at that. Sure, she fits in with her starched dresses, string of pearls, and floral aprons. Then there are the hushed and mystical consultations with neighborhood women in distress. The unsavory, mysterious plants in the flower beds. The divined warning to steer clear of a boyfriend whose fate is certainly doomed.

Very important and effective in making me look for Dopesick, but this really isn’t an actual book. Audible needs a way to categorize these coulda/shoulda/might’ve been podcasts.

Story
Dale Maharidge’s father, like many World War II veterans, never talked about “the good war”. There was just one clue to his dad’s experience as a US Marine - a portrait with a close friend that hung permanently in their home. In The Dead Drink First, Dale, now a Pulitzer Prize-winning author, recounts his 18-year quest to find and repatriate the missing remains of his dad’s buddy, Herman Walter Mulligan, 73 years after he was killed in action.

"She doesn't remember a thing," Rolph snapped into the phone. Andrea froze. His back was turned away from her. He didn't know she was there, listening. "It's been six months, for God's sake. If you harm one hair on her head, I'll contact the authorities. My father would be disgraced, but that will not deter me." Now Andrea couldn't move.

Flirting with danger... and amnesia!

I almost always avoid books with fabulously wealthy people in luxurious settings, but sometimes you just need a bit of escapism and some romance and mystery doesn’t hurt! Intrigue and international plotting keep the action going while the genuinely good hearted characters try to sort to keep their confidences and protect their friends.
The narrator does a lovely straight read, as is my usual preference (no sound effects, etc. let my imagination do the work!)
I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys romance with a side of blackmail!
