Story
This groundbreaking audiobook by Michel Foucault, the most influential philosopher since Sartre, compels us to reevaluate our assumptions about all the ensuing reforms in the penal institutions of the West. For as Foucault examines innovations that range from the abolition of torture to the institution of forced labor and the appearance of the modern penitentiary, he suggests that punishment has shifted its focus from the prisoner's body to his soul-and that our very concern with rehabilitation encourages and refines criminal activity.

This dude does not know how to read a semicolon
Reviewed: 08-01-23
So he just stops completely. The reading was pleasant enough but I just found it so distracting that the reader came to a full stop, as if forgetting what he was doing, every time he came to a semicolon. Like, his pauses at the end of sentences, paragraphs and sections are measurably shorter. Weird choice.

Story
Dr. Elisabeth Kubler-Ross created her classic seminal work, On Death and Dying, to offer us a new perspective on the terminally ill. It is not a psychoanalytic study, nor is it a "how-to" manual for managing death. Rather, it refocuses on the patient as a human being and a teacher, in the hope that we will learn from him or her about the final stages of life.

heavily abridged, weirdly edited, poorly read

this was read like a bad radio play. i tried to follow along with my edition of the text, but the reader skipped around, frequently altered the syntax for no reason, and sounded like she was drooling. the interviews were terrible, i don't think the readers understood the content of what they were reading. awful.
