Story
Today, your favorite products are missing from store shelves, caught in supply chain limbo somewhere in the Pacific Ocean. But what does this supply chain disruption look like six months, or even three years, from now? While we hope that post-pandemic recovery will absolve these issues, the reality is that digital currency, meme stonks, and social media can’t solve the age-old problem of producing and moving physical goods across oceans and continents. Jim Rickards argues that consumer frustration is only the tip of a large, menacing iceberg that threatens global economic collapse.

Narration & book is very dull & I think really is just rehashing a lot of the things I have heard from Rickard's podcasts on youtube. He has some interesting information, but it is really really written (and read) in a very dull fashion that it is hard to pay attention to it for a length of time.

Story
A Lie Too Big to Fail asserts the idea that a government can never investigate itself in a crime of this magnitude. Was the convicted Sirhan Sirhan a willing participant? Or was he a mind-controlled assassin? It has fallen to independent researchers like Pease to lay out the evidence in a clear and concise manner, allowing listeners to form their theories about this event. Pease places the history of this event in the context of the era and provides shocking overlaps between other high-profile murders and attempted murders of the time.

Why the author mostly ignores the obvious theory?
Reviewed: 07-06-22
I am trying to understand why there are not many more people seeing this as an "open and shut case".
Sirhan shot 6 out of the 8 bullets while being wrestled on the ground & even punched in the face, The bullets went everywhere, Some even ricocheted off of walls, floor and ceiling. This easily explains 1. why some of the bullets were fragmented (I think the concrete floor, ceiling and wall were a lot harder than the head of RFK). 2. why at least one bullet mysteriously hit him from up and behind the ear after ricocheting off of the concrete surfaces….(as many of the conspiracy theories argue that it could not have been Sirhan since he was shooting from RFKs front. and 3. why there were 13 “bullets” instead of 8….this is due to some of the bulllets fragmenting into 2 or 3 pieces. Author does not really discuss why the "bullet/s" in RFK's head was/were fragmented in the first place. To me, that makes it seem like she is not being objective but wishing to write a very very long conspiracy theory book , but many many other people seem to avoid this seemingly obvious conclusion too. I am trying to understand what i am missing here or why so many seem so stupid .

Story
Arguably one of the most provocative, puzzling, and misunderstood organizations of medieval times, the legendary Knights Templar have always been shrouded in a veil of mystery, while inspiring popular culture from Indiana Jones to Dan Brown. In The Templars, author Michael Haag offers a definitive history of these loyal Christian soldiers of the Crusades - sworn to defend the Holy Land and Jerusalem, but ultimately damned and destroyed by the Pope and his church.

Story
The millennium between the breakup of the western Roman Empire and the Reformation was a long and hugely transformative period - one not easily chronicled within a single book. Yet distinguished historian Chris Wickham has taken up the challenge in this landmark book, and he succeeds in producing the most riveting account of medieval Europe in a generation.

this book is packed with information and many might say that it is "Dry reading", but really the author (who is a professor at Oxford University) is just trying to convey is vast array of knowledge on the period. I have listened/read his other book also "The Inheritance of Rome" and this is like a continuation of that volume. I look forward to reading anything more in the future by Professor Chris Wikham and would like to thank him also for writing this as well as his other book "The Inheritance of Rome" . These are both excellent books to listen to as well as just study/analyze.

Story
Crucifixion, the Romans believed, was the worst fate imaginable, a punishment reserved for slaves. How astonishing it was, then, that people should have come to believe that one particular victim of crucifixion - an obscure provincial by the name of Jesus - was to be worshipped as a god. Dominion explores the implications of this shocking conviction as they have reverberated throughout history.

lots of nice writing, but kind of light on history

just like the other Tom Holland books I have read , I felt it was nice, sweet and fluffy, but kind of lacking in substance.
btw , I do think (along with many others) that "Rubicon" was his masterpiece. this is kind of the closest he has come to that I think, but still a bit too fluffy in content.

This history of modern Iran is not a survey in the conventional sense but an ambitious exploration of the story of a nation. It offers a revealing look at how events, people, and institutions are shaped by currents that sometimes reach back hundreds of years. The book covers the complex history of the diverse societies and economies of Iran against the background of dynastic changes, revolutions, civil wars, foreign occupation, and the rise of the Islamic Republic.

Long, disorganized, and very long winded rambling
Reviewed: 08-26-19
too long, disorganized, and seemed like the book was just more interested in length than in quality, concise organization, etc.
I will look for a book that hits more concicely , hones in on the main themes instead of just rambling on and on and on about just anything, Persian music, literature, just on and on about anything, not much organization,
plus it kind of skips to the 1500s and leaves out quite a lot of history before hand. I Was interested more in the ORIGINS of the "Persian" people, who are they really?

Eh...its OKAY,,though seemed a bit monotone/boring
Reviewed: 02-09-19
This "Course" is just a quick overview/ relisting of all the major "stories" of the fall of the Roman Empire from Augustus onwards. I didn't think it was a bad listen, though , I have listened to far better and more exciting/interesting courses/books.
The voice narration of the professor seemed also different than in previous other Great Courses that I have listened to. Mainly it seemed more kind of monotone and like it had been re-recorded and edited and was not a real passionate, enthusiastic (thinking engaged with speaking) "speech" type of course.

Story
Prizewinning historian Chris Wickham defies the conventional view of the Dark Ages in European history with a work of remarkable scope and rigorous yet accessible scholarship. Drawing on a wealth of new material and featuring a thoughtful synthesis of historical and archaeological approaches, Wickham argues that these centuries were critical in the formulation of European identity. Far from being a middle period between more significant epochs, this age has much to tell us in its own right about the progress of culture and the development of political thought.
