The story is good. BUT the narrator, oh. my. God! Who talks like this?! I think she confused this feel-good, woman's fiction book with some soft porn narrating job....the gravely moaning and whispering....I. can. not! It ruins the characters, makes them unrelatable. I am no quitter so I stuck it out to finish the story but I will avoid this narrator like the plague in my future book purchases. The author should spend the money and have this one re-recorded. Just painful to listen to.

Story
Set in the mountains of southern Appalachia, Demon Copperhead is the story of a boy born to a teenaged single mother in a single-wide trailer, with no assets beyond his dead father’s good looks and copper-colored hair, a caustic wit, and a fierce talent for survival. Relayed in his own unsparing voice, Demon braves the modern perils of foster care, child labor, derelict schools, athletic success, addiction, disastrous loves, and crushing losses.

I loved this book. My first BK and cannot wait to dig into what else she has blessed us with. Yes, the content is explicit with lots of foul language BUT worth every second. If you are one who starts this and does not finish it, what a shame for you. I feel like the main character is a real person, like someone I have known. I will miss him. The last minutes of this one left me with goosebumps over my whole body. Cannot recommend highly enough!

Story
It was four o'clock in the morning. A young woman pushed through the hospital doors. Staff would later say they thought the woman was a new mother, returning to her child - and in a way, she was. She walked into the nursery, where a baby girl lay sleeping. The infant didn't wake when the woman placed her gently in the shopping bag she had brought with her. There is CCTV footage of what happened next, and most Australians would have seen it, either on the internet or the news.

Geesh! what an absolute WASTE of time!

Did an 8th grader write this? I have never listened to such a poorly written and predictable book in my life. I knew the end of this book after listening to the first 2 chapters, but I hung in there keeping my fingers crossed for an epic twist or literally ANYTHING unexpected. Sad to say nothing ever came. And sorry but Dakota should keep her day job and leave the audio book narration to the professionals. And the additional VO actors were all over the place! some way to overacting and other limp noodles. Just a brutal audio book. I couldn't wait for it to end. Good thing it was included with my monthly membership and I did not waste a credit.

8.5 hours of awkward and cringey but good ending

the biggest killer of this book is the VO and the super awkward "acted out" scene chapters. but the writing is not much better. it was a free book, so no loss there, but wish I had not wasted my time. for as crappy as this book was, the last chapter and the wrap up were decent and made me feel like it was not a total tragic waste.
