Story
In Disunited Nations, geopolitical strategist Peter Zeihan presents a series of counterintuitive arguments about the future of a world where trade agreements are coming apart and international institutions are losing their power. Germany will decline as the most powerful country in Europe, with France taking its place. Every country should prepare for the collapse of China, not North Korea. We are already seeing, as Zeihan predicts, a shift in outlook on the Middle East: it is no longer Iran that is the region’s most dangerous threat, but Saudi Arabia.

Great Big Picture Overview
Reviewed: 05-04-22
The 30,000 ft analysis is very enlightening. The emphasis on demography and geography provides valuable insight into the forces that will shape the globe. However, the anysis and conclusions are not so obvious. Just like the multitude of intelligence analysis by different agencies, the conclusions are based on numerous assumptions and logic frameworks. Without knowing and understanding those, the conclusions could follow the Iraq WMD fallacy or be as accurate as the Ukraine war predictions.
For instance, the author acknowledges the importance of extreme power technology such as nuclear to deter invasions facilitated by geography. After WW2, countries possessing nuclear weapons minimized the types of invasions and conflicts that occurred for centuries. So, why is the geography issue as critical for Russia when invaders could be held at bay by advanced weapon systems? A country does not need the same number of citizens for territorial defense!
Likewise, could not China continue to build its naval power so as to protect its import / export trade all the while developing a more advanced cyber and AI capability to minimize the military threat from other countries?
Also, as the US built and enforced a global alliance against Russia that protected global trade, why could it not do the same against China?
I wish additional insight would be provided. The analytic leap from geography and demographics to specific conclusions needs much more detail before I can accept.

Story
Behind most major political stories in the modern era, there is an agenda - an effort by opposition researchers, spin doctors, and outside interests to destroy an idea or a person. The tactic they use is the Smear. Every day, Americans are influenced by the Smear without knowing it. Paid forces cleverly shape virtually every image you cross. Maybe you read that Donald Trump is a racist misogynist or saw someone on the news mocking the Bernie Sanders campaign. The trick of the Smear is that it is often based on some shred of truth.

Great Expose on the Reliability of Our News

Surprising revelations on the corrupted state of news reporting and the lack of truely factual journalism.
My only suspicion is the overwhelming discussion of anti-republican examples. I read with the assumption that there are as many anti-democratic "fake news" sources. The anti-democratic bias seems to fly in the face of objective jornalism!

Story
As President Trump’s national security advisor, John Bolton spent many of his 453 days in the room where it happened, and the facts speak for themselves. The result is one of the few White House memoirs to date by a top-level official. With almost daily access to the president, John Bolton has produced a precise rendering of his days in and around the Oval Office. What Bolton saw astonished him: a president for whom getting reelected was the only thing that mattered, even if it meant endangering or weakening the nation.

Great Insight Into a Questionable President
Reviewed: 07-16-20
A rare account of the decisions and discussions regarding key US security matters that defined Trump. The book provides needed context for many of the controversial decisions the press attempted to report. It is unfortunate this account was not available in real time to provide the critical transparency necessary to assess key events.
My one complaint was the pervasive attempt to convince the reader of Bolton's virtuousness throughout his telling of his side of these stories. I could not help but wonder how the other paties viewed Bolton and the various events recounted. However, he seems to go out of his way to factually present the many details surrounding the events in an effort to support his point of view.
It is worth the time to gain a deeper insight into Trump's behaviour.
