Story
Demetri's first literary foray features longer-form essays and conceptual pieces (such as Protagonists' Hospital, a melodrama about the clinic doctors who treat only the flesh wounds and minor head scratches of Hollywood action heroes), as well as his trademark charts, doodles, drawings, one-liners, and lists (i.e., the world views of optimists, pessimists and contortionists), Martin's material is varied, but his unique voice and brilliant mind will keep listeners in stitches from beginning to end.

Some books just can't be audiobooks
Reviewed: 07-02-12
I think Demitri Martin is an incredible comedian and his writing is funny in a very intelligent way. Some jokes, however, are better read than heard. This book is an example. While there are definitely some laugh-out-loud moments, I felt the majority of Martin's joke were jokes that simply put a big grin on your face. They're not really that funny, but they're certainly original.
Another thing to add is that there are some jokes in here that don't really make sense in an audiobook, but in a book would actually be quite funny. I say pick up the book version instead. This also makes it easier to go back to your favorite jokes and show them to your friends.
The "genie FAQs" was my favorite.

The Prequel to the Prequels
Reviewed: 06-20-12
Would you consider the audio edition of Star Wars: Darth Plagueis to be better than the print version?
Yes. The sound effects alone make for an entirely different experience.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
Even the Emperor has a master.
Any additional comments?
This is a must read for anyone who found they had a long list of unanswered questions after watching the prequel trilogy. There were moments where I said to myself, "Oh, now I understand why [character] did [action] in Episode [I, II, or III]!" Luceno does an excellent job of connecting the dots. Prior to this book, Palpatine was one of the most enigmatic characters of the entire saga, with little or no background information, even among the other EU titles.
Daniel Davis certainly knows how to carry a voice of menace in his narration. While I admire Marc Thompson's performances in the other Star Wars audiobooks, I'm glad Davis was chosen for this one instead. His deep, well seasoned, and diction perfected voice simply cannot be matched. Highly recommended.
