Story
Ashore on leave, Captain Sir Thomas Kydd learns of a dismal harvest and general hardship among the population. In Germany, Napoleon Bonaparte is celebrating victories that once again make his name feared throughout Europe. An armistice is signed and while the Allies lick their wounds Bonaparte sets to preparing for a grand advance. And, in a fragile peace, and saddled with huge war debts, the government has no choice but to place HMS Thunderer, along with many other Royal Navy ships, in reserve, until the Navy can decide what to do with their great fleets.

I loved the book!

The book is a great way to finish the series. I wish there would be another book, with the Admiral.

Story
The year is 1072. The Normans have captured England. The Turks have captured a Norman knight. And in order to free him, a soldier named Vallon must capture four rare hawks. On a heart-stopping journey to the far ends of the earth, braving Arctic seas, Viking warlords, and the blood-drenched battlefields, Vallon and his comrades must track down their quarry one by one in a relentless race against time. The scale is huge. The journey is incredible. The history is real. This is Hawk Quest.

Couldn't Put This One Down

If you could sum up Hawk Quest in three words, what would they be?
Rich, consuming story
What other book might you compare Hawk Quest to and why?
The Lord of the Rings, although that work is really in a class by itself! . This work is a quest, it takes the reader from Britain, to Greenland, France, Italy and ends in Constantinople, and it has strong and unlikely central characters.
Have you listened to any of Fleet Cooper’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No, and I found the narrator to be excellent.
Who was the most memorable character of Hawk Quest and why?
Vallon - he has a deeply hidden past, and is unpredictable.

Terrific Book

This is a book that's hard to pause! The first part is a little slow, and the pace picks up dramatically about a third of the way through - from there on, it's captivating. As an added bonus, Josephine Bailey is the best narrator you can wish for. Too bad the three sequels are not publised as audiobooks.
