Story
Grace Adams gave birth, blinked, and now suddenly she is forty-five, perimenopausal and stalled—the unhappiest age you can be, according to the Guardian. And today she’s really losing it. Stuck in traffic, she finally has had enough. To the astonishment of everyone, Grace gets out of her car and simply walks away. Grace sets off across London, armed with a £200 cake, to win back her estranged teenage daughter on her sixteenth birthday. Because today is the day she’ll remind her daughter that no matter how far we fall, we can always get back up again

The narration was very good, but that didn’t save the story. It was really just meh.

Inspiring Concept, but one chapter was enough
Reviewed: 08-25-17
What disappointed you about The 5 Second Rule?
The concept and general idea is really inspiring. The simplicity of it makes it really novel. But, I had to stop listening half way through. I get it. Folks have been inspired by the author. They write her and tell her about it. The book was so repetitive and the lack of editing of her reading and all the mistakes just got irritating after a while. I really wanted to keep going with it, but it was like nails on the chalkboard and I found my mind wandering and thinking about what book I wanted to listen to next instead.
Has The 5 Second Rule turned you off from other books in this genre?
No.
What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?
I really like the actual concept and the fact that folks have found it inspirational. I have as well. I have used the rule a few times and it does work and it is motivating.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
At first, inspiration. Then, irritation. I love the concept and the motivation of it. I couldn't deal with the author's actual voice and style when reading of the book or the repetitiveness of every chapter. I get it. The 5-Second Rule works. Folks like your idea and have written to you about their success with it too. An article, a speaking tour and a website make sense. A full book on this was overkill.
