Annoying protagonist and excessively verbose story
Reviewed: 10-14-24
I do not understand the glowing reviews. I found the protagonist's unendingly whiny self talk over the top and grating. That was compounded by the excessive and redundant wordiness of the entire story. The plot was not complex and the reveals were easy to guess. The excessive explanation of everything just made it boring. I only made it to the end by listening at double speed while doing chores. I want my credit back :(

The big money is in conflict investment. The corporations keep a careful watch on the wars of liberation and revolution that burn constantly around the world. Story
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

A good and enjoyable story well told

A good and enjoyable story well told, that really says it all. If you liked the first book you'll like this one. If you haven't read or listened to the first one I recommend you do so. The second book doesn't require the first but does reveal some details that would diminish enjoying the first story.

A well-paced fun near future adventure!
Reviewed: 12-29-20
An adventure story that kept my attention with quick pacing, interesting and relatable characters both human and non-human, excellent narration, a mostly plausible not too distant future and multiple interwoven story lines all tied tight enough for a satisfying conclusion that also leaves room for more. I really enjoyed Level 5.
