This is the last in the series, and it wrapped up in a gratifying manner. Start at the beginning and enjoy!

I barely read the description and decided to try anyway, hoping for a surprise. What a great story and the narrative was outstanding! A fun twist on familiar sci-fi tropes you’ll be sure to enjoy. I think I found a new narrator and author to explore too.

The performances are really good, sound effects well done, but the story is like watching a bug getting flushed down the toilet. Could not wait for it to be over….

I really liked this story from beginning to end, it has all the elements that keep your ears glued to every word Ray Porter says. If you love classic sci if, and a good adventure yarn, you’ll love this. I did!

Could have been a great Firefly-style romp, but is instead a study in one woman’s obsession with fixing her non boyfriend war criminal….all while lazily figuring out where her 8 year old daughter wandered off to in the universe. 2/3 thru now, might as well finish it up…kinda aggravated at the main character, makes it difficult. Narrator is pretty good at differentiating characters and working the awkward plot pacing. Not bad, not great. Solid 3 of 5

Wow - superb narration and storytelling. Prior to listening, I too read the negative reviews. However, I too a chance as Neil Gaiman and Dirk Maggs are pretty good, so what the heck, I'll give it a go. To be honest, I have no idea what the negative critics were belly-aching about! Either those critics should go back to reading used Archie or Scooby Doo comic books, or take up another hobby, for this production was masterfully done. I didn't know about the 'sandman', so I looked it up online for a cursory examination, and got the basic idea of the character, avoiding any spoilers.
The somewhat linear episodic nature of the story, how it orbits in and around the Sandman, made for a really good listen - and the narrators were superb - breathing life into the characters and making them come alive. I'm so glad I ignored the ignorant critics, and gave this one a go - you should too!

About 3/4 of the way thru, it hit me. These stories move just like the original stories by Robert E. Howard's Conan the Barbarian stories from the 1920's and 30's. If you like that style of story, the pacing, the unique characters, suspensful buildups and subtle surprises, you'll dig this book. I've read the first book in the authors story arc, and his last book of Cabal short stories, and this one is really great - like that 2nd sophomore album that rocks, it's a great listen, and the narration is impeccable. Beware, for you'll be hooked.

I found ‘The Long Ships ‘ as a dusty dogeared book at a used book store, took a chance on it because the cover looked cool, and was rewarded with the best stories I’ve read since I went down a Robert E Howard rabbit hole (the guy who wrote all the Conan stories).
If you like stories such as these, you’ll love this....so glad to rediscover this book in audio form where the narrator does the story justice! Fantastic listening awaits the bold....
