Story
Recently orphaned, young Rose Campbell is sent to the "Aunt Hill", where Uncle Alex, her six aunts, and seven boy cousins live in noisy confusion. It is nothing like the quiet girls’ boarding school that has been Rose’s home for the past year. Surrounded by a bewildering array of pets, relatives, and unfamiliar foods, the fragile girl wonders if she will ever get used to this new life. Fortunately, Uncle Alex is her guardian. He keeps the aunts from coddling her too much, and makes sure that she has plenty of time to play outside with her cousins.

Story
In this latest adventure (following Pigeon Post, winner of the Carnegie Medal), the Walker family has come to Harwich to wait for Commander Walker's return. As usual, the children can't stay away from boats, and this time they meet young Jim Brading, skipper of the well-found sloop Goblin. But fun turns to high drama when the anchor drags, and the four young sailors find themselves drifting out to sea - sweeping across to Holland in the midst of a full gale!

This is Ransome's best Swallows and Amazons story. The Walker children are heroic, the storyline clever, and the descriptions of sailing fascinating. A wonderful book!

Full of history of horse racing!
Reviewed: 08-07-18
I have grown up visiting Saratoga and watching horse racing on television. It is fun to hear the stories behind the people who dedicate their lives to it. The book takes the time to tell the story of the breeders, the early trainers, the owners and of course the current trainers. I listened to the book before the last triple crown was won by Justified and understood the it all so much better!
