Story
An insider biography of the Black Crowes by drummer and cofounder Steve Gorman. In his first-person history of the Black Crowes, Hard To Handle - the first ever account of this great American rock band's beginning, middle, and end - Gorman makes it clear just how impossible that job was. Fortunately, Gorman tells the tale with great insight, candor, and humor. They don't make bands like the Black Crowes anymore: crazy, brilliant, self-destructive, inspiring, and, ultimately, not built to last. But, man, what a ride it was while it lasted.

This outing is written with no concern for the parties involved, like it should be.
If you want to know how a band that caught lightning in a bottle disintegrated into nothing, then I would definitely suggest this one to you.
Some complain about the language but it is rock and roll and musicians tend to talk that way.
I was pleased with the book and Steve’s performance.

Story
In 2009, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band performed at the Super Bowl's halftime show. The experience was so exhilarating that Bruce decided to write about it. That's how this extraordinary autobiography began. Over the past seven years, Bruce Springsteen has privately devoted himself to writing the story of his life, bringing to this audio the same honesty, humor, and originality found in his songs.

This outing is part philosophy and part bio.
Not a bad thing, just different.
I just came off listening to Mark Lanegan’s bio which is all open wound and no stitches.
This is Bruce giving you and the people mentioned in the book a positive representation of what he wants to allow.
He even concedes this fact at the end.
Still a good listen (he doesn’t laugh all through it like Townsend did) and a look into a fascinating man, a talented man, hell he is the boss after all.

The long-awaited autobiography from Phil Collins, one of the best-selling music artists of all time. This is the roller-coaster journey from his beginnings as a child actor to his domination of the charts as both a solo artist and part of Genesis. His success is astounding, his music has global reach, and his story is legendary.

A Surprise of a Story
Reviewed: 02-23-22
I was somewhat of a peripheral fan of Genesis and Phil Collins. I am more of a guitar oriented music fan but I figured that Phil would have an interesting story to tell and wow does he.
All the hard work and the success were expected but the latter part of his life and struggles with alcohol were not.
Not so much the nuts and bolts of the music industry but how it all affected him and what the demands did to him personally.
I enjoyed this outing and I think anyone would.

Story
Stephen Pearcy was a scrawny, horny, thrill-seeking teenager with an electric guitar who had graduated from backyard parties in San Diego to half-empty dives in Los Angeles before he and his band broke through at Whiskey a Go Go. Cranking out metal just as metal got hot, Ratt was the perfect band at the perfect time, and their hit single "Round and Round" became a top-selling anthem.

If half of these stories are true then the wind was his friend and just took him over the top and in the gutter.
I expected somewhat of a story of redemption but no, we double down on being a self absorbed prick but hey in the rock and roll world of the early eighties I guess that is what it took because most of those bands did it that way.
I would have liked some more detail in some of the stories and would have liked a more extensive ending but I guess Steve is a prick in all that he does and just ended it.
Sad to say it has caught up to him but hell, what a ride.

An early architect of punk rock's sound, style, and fury, whose lip-curling sneer and fist-pumping persona vaulted him into pop's mainstream as one of MTV's first megastars, Billy Idol remains, to this day, a true rock 'n' roll icon. Now, in his long-awaited autobiography, Dancing with Myself, Idol delivers an electric, searingly honest account of his journey to fame - from his early days as front man of the pioneering UK punk band Generation X to the decadent life atop the dance-rock kingdom he ruled.

Two sisters. Two voices. One Heart.
The mystery of "Magic Man." The wicked riff of "Barracuda." The sadness and beauty of "Alone." The raw energy of "Crazy On You." These songs, and so many more, are part of the fabric of American music. Heart, fronted by Ann and Nancy Wilson, has given fans everywhere classic, raw, and pure badass rock and roll for more than three decades. As the only sisters in rock who write their own music and play their own instruments, Ann and Nancy have always stood apart - certainly from their male counterparts but also from their female peers.

I enjoyed this outing by Ann and Nancy more than I thought I would.
I was afraid with their vast history that it would be lacking in order to get it all in but they did a really good job of touching on all aspects.
Really enjoyed listening to them talk about their parents and how that relationship developed over the years.
Always means more when the parties involved read the book so that makes it that much more entertaining.

After years of gigging everywhere from suburban backyards to dive bars, Van Halen - led by frontman extraordinaire David Lee Roth and guitar virtuoso Edward Van Halen - had the songs, the swagger, and the talent to turn the rock world on its ear. The quartet's classic 1978 debut, Van Halen, sold more than a million copies within months of release and rocketed the band to the stratosphere of rock success.

Billy Crystal is 65, and he's not happy about it. With his trademark wit and heart, he outlines the absurdities and challenges that come with growing old, from insomnia to memory loss to leaving dinners with half your meal on your shirt. In humorous chapters like "Buying the Plot" and "Nodding Off," Crystal not only catalogues his physical gripes, but offers a road map to his 77 million fellow baby boomers who are arriving at this milestone age with him. He also looks back at the most powerful and memorable moments of his long and storied life.

In the mid-70s, Steve Martin exploded onto the comedy scene. By 1978 he was the biggest concert draw in the history of stand-up. In 1981 he quit forever. Born Standing Up is, in his own words, the story of "why I did stand-up and why I walked away".

I grew up with Steve Martin and was looking forward to this book.
I just listened Martin Short’s book and enjoyed it thoroughly.
This outing is OK but there are no deep dives, insight into relationships or really detail that provides reasons behind the narrative.
Steve pretty much just reads the text as a news reporter with no emotion and sounds monotone and flat.
I still enjoyed the book but was left feeling like there was so much more he could have shared and been connected.
He did state he is not one to look back so maybe that is part of it.

Great stories of friendship and family.
Marty is an inspiration in a lot of ways but mainly his ability to stay positive and channel his life experiences really stood out to me.
If you want to know about SCTV, SNL and all the characters Marty is known for, it is all there but if you want a human life lesson then please read this book.
Thanks for sharing Marty.
