A posthumous recipient of the World Fantasy Award for Lifetime Achievement, Marion Zimmer Bradley reinvented - and rejuvenated - the King Arthur mythos with her extraordinary Mists of Avalon series. In this epic work, Bradley follows the arc of the timeless tale from the perspective of its previously marginalized female characters: Celtic priestess Morgaine, Gwenhwyfar, and High Priestess Viviane.

A fairy tale from the mind of cruelty
Reviewed: 02-04-25
Audible should have put a warning in the description. A story in the heart of a groomer,
I started listening because it was free and I liked the narrator's work with CS Lewis ' perelandia.
I was also looking for details about the Pendragon story. I thought it would be amusing to hear the story told from the woman's perspective.
The author has talent, and sets up the place and people vividly. But she uses her talent to gradually acclimatize the reader into sympathizing with the feelings and motives of a woman who arranges youth marriages assault. The adolescent boys and girls whom "The Lady of the Lake" out for the "salvation of Britain" are her sisters, nieces, nephews, possibly her own sons?
The assaults gradually increased in graphic details and descriptions of spiritual emotional damage.
No thanks, The historical patriarchy honored and tolerated leaders with these behaviors. We don't need to glorify women in leadership who use power to harm the vulnerable. Audible should have put a warning in the description.

Story
Jane Austen's first novel, Northanger Abbey, published posthumously in 1818, tells the story of Catherine Morland and her dangerously sweet nature, innocence, and sometime self-delusion. Though Austen's fallible heroine is repeatedly drawn into scrapes while vacationing at Bath and during her subsequent visit to Northanger Abbey, Catherine eventually triumphs, blossoming into a discerning woman who learns truths about love, life, and the heady power of literature. The satirical Northanger Abbey pokes fun at the Gothic novel while earnestly emphasizing caution to the female sex.

Sassy Author, with Elegant, Understated Narrator
Reviewed: 10-17-19
Jane Austen wrote with so much sass! The ending is tied up with a precious little literary bow.
Elizabeth Klett (narrator) is extremely gifted in subtly conveying, through tone and inflection, Austen's elegantly phrased angst of teenaged love, parental successes and missteps, and the cultural norms of her time with humor and kindness.

His job is to destroy the most illegal of commodities, the printed book, along with the houses in which they are hidden. Eliminated so much drama in my marriage
Reviewed: 07-14-18
The chapter titled "Be Precise" persuaded me that I deserve a life where I communicater directly, explicitly, and respectfully about what I want and who I am.
This is not easy to do!
Hearing the chapter read in the author's accent and expressions made it funnier and easier to understand.
All of the book is insightful and dryly humorous. However, it is not easy listening. The wisdom presented is well worth the effort to listen in 20 minute increments.
Often, I would take a week break in between chapters. I will be re-listening to it for a long time.

Story
It seems animals are like people in many ways--they just can’t get along with one another. And Brer Rabbit has the most trouble of all. Maybe it’s his mischievous ways, or maybe it’s because adventures always come looking for him. There was the frightening day that Brer Rabbit found himself attached to a baby made of sticky tar. Brer Fox would have had a tasty barbecue that evening if Brer Rabbit hadn’t been such a quick thinker. Then there was the time Mr. Man finally caught Brer Rabbit in the garden.
