Italy, 1943. The Nazi occupation has cemented its grip on the devastated city of Naples. Giuseppe DiPietra, a curator in the National Archives, has a subversive plan to aid the Allies. If he’s discovered, forced labor or swift execution. Lucia Pastone, secretary for the Italian Fascist government, is risking her own life in secret defiance of orders. Great diversion
Reviewed: 05-17-17
The story it's a simple one of good vs evil told from the viewpoint of an adolescent reluctant hero. Drama, action, romance, and comedy. I typically read dark detective mysteries and this book series will offer a great diversion between them.

Story
In rural, impoverished Burgoyne County, New York, a pattern of strange deaths begins to emerge: Adolescent boys and girls are found murdered, their corpses left hanging in gruesome, ritualistic fashion. Senior law enforcement officials are quick to blame a serial killer, but their efforts to apprehend this criminal are peculiarly ineffective.

Caleb Carr is AWESOME

Caleb Carr is AWESOME. I love his books. He weaves tales of mystery that are compelling. As are the characters within. The narrator brought the book to life for me; he has an easy voice for listening and each character was distinct.

Story
The four fires in this story are passion, religion, warfare, and fire itself. While there are many more fires that drive the human spirit, love being perhaps the brightest flame of all, it is these four that have moulded us most as Australian people. The four fires give us our sense of place and, for better or for worse, shape our national character.

Story
Atlanta, 1974: It's Kate Murphy's first day on the job, and the Atlanta Police Department is seething after the murder of an officer. Before the day has barely begun, she already suspects she's not cut out to be a cop. Her male uniform is too big, she can't handle a gun, and she's rapidly learning that the APD is hardly a place that welcomes women. Worse still, in the ensuing manhunt she'll be partnered with Maggie Lawson, a cop with her own ax to grind.

Narration Issues
Reviewed: 12-06-14
Would you listen to Flesh and Bone again? Why?
No. I would rather read it. The narrator spoke in monotones.
What did you like best about this story?
The plot was intriguing, well woven, and the ending was superb.
What didn’t you like about Erik Singer’s performance?
The narrator sounded like he had a terminal case of ennui.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Fresh forgets; bone remembers.
Any additional comments?
I would love to see the series turned into a film franchise.

Awful Narration
Reviewed: 04-23-06
A great classic! However, I find the narrator’s style sooooo annoying, it distracted from listening to the story. The narrator elongates the last word of (almost) every sentence. At times, the elongation implies an ominous foreshadowing that is incongruent to the sentence or story line. “Dorothy slept well … until …the … next … mooornnnniiiinnnng.” She just goes to sleep because she is tried. Nothing happens the next morning! Once in a while, an elongation is ok, but the entire book? I wish someone had reviewed this book before me, I would have purchased a different reading.
