Story
Best-selling author Bryan Burrough reveals how four Texas oil tycoons transformed America. Rising from humble beginnings through hard work and shrewd dealings, they shifted the balance of power in American politics. While hobnobbing with movie stars and presidents, the Big Rich also created the legend of the swaggering Texas oilman with island hideaways and sprawling ranches.

Story
The Election of 1872 was the most contentious in American history. After both parties complained of corruption, neither candidate would concede, two governors claimed office and chaos erupted. Rival newspapers engaged in a bitter war of words, politicians plotted to overthrow the government, and their supporters fought in the streets and attempted assassinations. The entire country watched in grim fascination as the wounds of the Civil War were ripped open and the promise of President Grant’s Reconstruction faltered in the face of violent resistance and the birth of the Ku Klux Klan.

References to source documents and chronicles
Reviewed: 10-07-24
The story could have been told in half the time. On almost every situation different chroniclers with different opinions would be given good references to source documents such as Doomsday Book and Anglo chronicles. Ok for major events but at times went into such detail on things that did not matter to me. This period is of great interest to me and I did learn but just not my cup of tea

In this sweeping novel, James A. Michener chronicles eight tumultuous centuries as three Polish families live out their destinies. With an inspiring tradition of resistance to brutal invaders, from the barbarians to the Nazis, and a heritage of pride that burns through eras of romantic passion and courageous solidarity, their common story reaches a breathtaking culmination in the historic showdown between the ruthless Communists and rebellious farmers of the modern age.

Performance really appropriate with story line

First 10 minutes I thought not going to be good, but everything laid out. Story line with historical people and events blended well with fictional people to round out story. Gave a good understanding of the Polish culture and difference of that country compared to others. Unique. This is a book I am glad I listened to instead of read. I got much more out of it I believe.

Story
When Carrie Fisher recently discovered the journals she kept during the filming of the first Star Wars movie, she was astonished to see what they had preserved—plaintive love poems, unbridled musings with youthful naiveté, and a vulnerability that she barely recognized. Today, her fame as an author, actress, and pop-culture icon is indisputable, but in 1977, Carrie Fisher was just a teenager with an all-consuming crush on her costar, Harrison Ford.

Didn’t care much for the actual reading of the diaries. Carrie’s did log prior to and after was outstanding. There is no way reading the material would have been the same listening to her. Fantastic job. Definitely worth listening to.
