Story
Ten days before Christmas, 2010, ATF agent John Dodson awoke to the news he had dreaded every day as a member of the elite team called the Group VII Strike Force: a US border patrol agent named Brian Terry had been shot dead by bandits armed with guns that had been supplied to them by ATF. Was this an inevitable consequence of the Obama administration's Project Gunrunner, set in place one year earlier, ostensibly to track Mexican drug cartels?

This story sounds eerily similar to those being reported about the FBI and Secret Service. So much incompetence and arrogance within government agencies. The narration of this book was excellent. Done so well that, at times, I began to forget this was a true life account, as it felt like listening to a novel.
My heart goes out to the Terry family and the pain they must endure due to the misguided efforts of some jackass seeking promotion and recognition.

This book is a winning blueprint for patriots across the country. And it is a rallying cry for every American who wishes to preserve our liberties.

Freedom will be forever lost without Courage

Ron DeSantis lays out a very strong blueprint for any Conservative with the courage to win election. Unfortunately, I fear there are too few left in this country. I pray I’m wrong, but time will tell. Hopefully more will follow his lead and bring us back from the brink of destruction. We’re so unmoored from the Constitution, our forefathers would be so disappointed. When asked what form of government we’d been given, Ben Franklin never spoke truer words than when he replied, “A republic, if you can keep it”.

Well written, well narrated. This was a good story and held my interest throughout. I thought I had it figured out until the end. It wrapped up nicely and explained everything. I’m anxious to watch the series I just discovered on HBO to see it it lives up to the book.

I grew up watching Gilda Radner on SNL like so many others. I knew she ultimately succumbed to cancer, but never knew just how much she endured while battling this awful disease.
It’s sad to know she passed so soon after the conclusion of this book.
I feel as though there is so much good information about available treatment, but I don’t know if I’d find this book inspirational if I were suffering from cancer. In fact, I’d find it devastating to know I could possibly go through the torture of invasive treatment and still not survive.
That said, it was wonderful to be entertained by Gilda one last time. She was a great talent taken from us far too soon. I take comfort in knowing that, now that Gene Wilder has also passed, they are hopefully reunited and entertaining huge crowds and basking in uproarious laughter.

Story
Investigative journalist Laura Chambers is back in her tiny hometown of Hillsborough, North Carolina, the one place she swore never to return. Fired from The Boston Globe, her career in shambles, she reluctantly takes a job with the local paper. The work is simple, unimportant, and worst of all, boring - at least until a missing girl turns up dead, the body impeccably clean, dressed to be the picture of innocence. Years earlier, 10-year-old Patty Finch left home and never made it back. But for the people of Hillsborough, Patty was just the beginning.

Decent thriller

The story was good, the narration was very good, but it just felt like the story tried too hard to be outstanding. It had details that seemed as though the author was trying too hard to impress us with technical knowledge that was likely researched, but clearly not first hand. The story also had several, teen-horror film moments where the main character takes actions that are highly questionable. It was a fair attempt at a Stephen King thriller, certainly better than I could do, but not great.

Story
Every spring, Little Leaguers across the country mimic his stance and squabble over the right to wear his number, 2, the next number to be retired by the world’s most famous ball team. Derek Jeter is their hero. He walks in the footsteps of Ruth, Gehrig, DiMaggio, and Mantle, and someday his shadow will loom just as large. Yet he has never been the best player in baseball. In fact, he hasn’t always been the best player on his team. But his intangible grace and Jordanesque ability to play big in the biggest of postseason moments make him the face of the modern Yankee dynasty, and of America’s game.

The story of Derek Jeter is a great one and is authored well, with many names and unnamed sources. However, it is overshadowed by this narrator’s lack of familiarity with baseball terms, player names, and overall lingo. I got past it through the first few gaffs, but as it continued, it became a big, distraction waiting for the next one to drop.

In Swing and Hit, O’Neill elaborates on his most important hitting principles, lessons, and memories—exploring those elements across ten chapters (to align with the nine innings of a baseball game and one extra inning). Here, O’Neill, with his intense temperament, describes what he did as a hitter, how he adjusted to pitchers, how he boosted his confidence, how he battled with umpires (and water coolers), and what advice he would give to current hitters.

As a lifelong Yankees fan, and one who lived and died with each win and loss through the championship years of 1996-2000, this book was an amazing walk down memory lane with Pauly.
Getting to hear the ins and outs of one of the hardest working baseball players in the game, from his perspective, was a fantastic view of that history.
Having lost my older sister, Cathy Martin, on 10/29/1999, my view of the 1999 Postseason was also a blur. I watched all 4 WS games in at my sister’s bedside in the hospital. Remembering those games through this book was heartbreaking and brought tears to my eyes, as Paul shared the grief he endured losing his father around the same time.
I doubt Mr. O’Neill will ever see this review, but, your style of play and sheer passion for the game was rewarding to watch. As a fan, it felt very vindicating seeing you as frustrated as we fans were when things didn’t go well. Nothing was more disheartening than to watch other players laughing or joking around in the dugout after having struck out in a huge spot. You were a great player, but your passion is what endeared you to so many New Yorkers. It was unmatched. Thank you for that.
Watching current Yankees games and getting to hear Paul, Michael Kay and David Cone reminisce about the past or poke fun at each other continues to entertain me today. This book is more of those conversations on a more in-depth level.
Great book and a must read for any baseball fan. Thanks Pauly. And thank you Jack Curry for bringing the story to life.

One of the greatest drummers I ever heard.
Reviewed: 02-18-22
Growing up a huge John Mellencamp fan, I came to appreciate Kenny Aronoff’s talent at an early age. However, in later years, though disappointed that Kenny and John parted ways, I was constantly seeing Kenny popping up in video clips of so many of my favorite artists.
I am no musician, but as a fan, I can recognize that different drummers have different styles. But until I heard Kenny explain the never ending subtle differences that even switching from right to left hand can make, I never fully appreciated his craft.
Kenny’s endless enthusiasm and continued awe of the rock legends he has played with is incredible. He epitomizes the adage; if you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life. It’s refreshing to hear.
Like I mentioned, loving Mellencamp’s music, I find it a little disheartening to hear John in interviews saying how much he disliked performing. It almost made me feel cheated somehow. But hearing it from Kenny’s perspective was comforting. Kenny may not be the most gifted narrator, but I always enjoy hearing an author’s first hand account of their story. It’s so much more genuine, which is very befitting Kenny’s story.
Keep Rockin’ Kenny, I’ll never grow tired of your hard-hitting drum-lines!

Story
When a young man is found gruesomely murdered in a London houseboat, it triggers questions about three women who knew him. Laura is the troubled one-night-stand last seen in the victim’s home. Carla is his grief-stricken aunt, already mourning the recent death of yet another family member. And Miriam is the nosy neighbor clearly keeping secrets from the police. Three women with separate connections to the victim. Three women who are – for different reasons – simmering with resentment. Who are, whether they know it or not, burning to right the wrongs done to them.
