Two out if Threes not bad

Kevin Hernes stories always rock! The second story by Delilah was really good too. However the third story by Chuck was a meandering rambling mess. The author skipped a solid plot in attempts to try some artistic hodge podge trying to mix Phillip K Dick and Quentin Tarantino and completely failed.

Story
Newly widowed and trying to cope with her grief, Winnie Mae Chisholm moves from Tennessee with her teenage son, Pax, to Oregon, hoping the change will let them both heal and move on. She’s warned when buying their new home that the next door neighbor, Mr. Fisher, is a famous recluse and no one has seen him in years, but that’s fine with her—she’s looking for quiet. She’s not going to get it, however, because when Pax meets the neighbor, he discovers that the reason Mr. Fisher hides from the world is that he isn’t actually from this world.

Story
Hello. My name is Stevie Cartwright, and I've been witchless for 30 days. If only there was a support group for down-on-their-luck ex-witches who've had their powers slapped right out of them (literally). Just as I was licking my wounds after returning to my hometown of Ebenezer Falls, Washington, and navigating my suddenly nonmagical existence with the help of my familiar, Belfry, things got sticky. Enter an ex-spy and newly departed spirit named Winterbottom, who's infiltrated my life with his sexy British accent and a couple of requests....

The narration is horrible to listen to...high pitched whine/squeek voice for a distressed person. So bad one cant even focus on the storyline. Intolerable.

Story
So many illusions crumbled when death touched Eleanore Wright. She ran away from the ruins of one life toward the ruins of another. When she discovered that her husband and grandmother both died on the same day, maybe the same hour, a series of events were set in motion that would change her life forever. Nothing in the world was what it seemed. She ran to a place from her past and found a stranger there, with scars, a hammer in hand, and stains on his boots. Will she find peace within the house’s peeling paint, dusty rooms, and mysterious sounds?

Story
When Ava Harrison receives a letter containing an unusual job listing one month after the sudden death of her ex-boyfriend, she thinks she’s being haunted. The listing—a job as a live-in caretaker for a peculiar old man and his cranky cat in Driftwood, Alabama—is the perfect chance to start a new life. A normal life. Ava has always been too fearful to even travel, so no one’s more surprised than she is when she throws caution to the wind and drives to the distant beachside town.

She has a comfortable life in her aunt's bakery making gingerbread men dance. But Mona's life is turned upside down when she finds a dead body on the bakery floor. An assassin is stalking the streets of Mona's city, preying on magic folk, and it appears that Mona is his next target. And in an embattled city suddenly bereft of wizards, the assassin may be the least of Mona's worries.

Basically this author took the Amanda M Lee - Winchester witchs of the midwest and changed the names....and thats about it. The story setup is nearly identical. Main char is a reporter returned home. cousins, bnb, crazy anut...so many other similarities down to the aunts antics to not be over looked. I cant list all of the sameness here but even the language nuances are the same...the interplay of the family is the same too....its like a shadow of an original. The narrator is good I would listen to her stuff again for sure.

Last night, David Steele was an aging one-hit-wonder facing certain death. After he makes a deal with a powerful demon that answers his desperate call, he wakes up the next morning, alive and healthy in the Ashburn suburbs, but in someone else’s body. His new identity comes with some nice perks at least - a smoking hot girlfriend, a big McMansion to call home, his own used bookstore, and a guitar made by a god. Plus, well, he's also not dead.

So I live near here and found this even more entertaining since they were talking about roads and neighborhoods I am familier with. The storyline was entertaining and the characters were fascinating. There was the dark humor one would expect of the genre. The narrator did a great job too. Clear, concise and no weird tics or unpleasant tones.
