Room for rent, a mind for fear
Reviewed: 05-14-25
Freida McFadden’s “The Tenant” is a gripping psychological thriller that delves into the complexities of trust, betrayal, and the unexpected consequences of welcoming a stranger into one's home. The novel follows Blake, a man whose seemingly perfect life is thrown into disarray after he is accused of betraying his company and subsequently loses his job. Facing financial strain, Blake and his fiancée, Krista, decide to rent out a room to a tenant. However, their decision to invite a tenant into their home, which initially appears to be a logical solution, quickly spirals into a series of mysterious and alarming events. As Blake begins to notice strange occurrences surrounding their tenant, the mounting anxiety kicks in, forcing both Blake and the reader to question the true nature of their lodger. The eerie atmosphere and the slow reveal of secrets create a compelling backdrop for Blake’s internal conflict and his struggle to regain control over his life. This novel is a must-read for fans of psychological thrillers and tales that linger long after the last page is turned.

Story
Buckhead isn’t a place you live, it’s a place you survive. And that applies even to the wealthy housewives that have it all. Fancy cars, designer clothes, and daily salon appointments aren’t nearly enough to keep them fulfilled and happy. Because in this town, privilege and opulence go hand in hand with betrayal and revenge. Jenny, the owner of Glow, an exclusive membership-only beauty salon, knows that better than anyone, because she knows everything about these housewives—down to each individual strand of hair.

Story
It was supposed to be an escape from the stress back home. A Christmas spent by myself, snowed in somewhere in the middle of nowhere. What I got instead was an unexpected roommate and a chance at my dream job. It should have been easy to keep my distance and focus on the task at hand, but when it came to Luke, nothing was easy. His charm and sexy smile had me wanting to unwrap him as my gift under the tree. Which is why I couldn’t say no when he asked for my help with his sister’s last-minute wedding. The catch- I had to pretend to be his girlfriend AND a caterer.
