Story
The Talmud says: “If someone comes to kill you, rise up and kill him first.” This instinct to take every measure, even the most aggressive, to defend the Jewish people is hardwired into Israel’s DNA. From the very beginning of its statehood in 1948, protecting the nation from harm has been the responsibility of its intelligence community and armed services, and there is one weapon in their vast arsenal that they have relied upon to thwart the most serious threats: Targeted assassinations have been used countless times, on enemies large and small....

I know nothing about and care very little about the goings on between Israel and its enemies. Yet this story was amazing and I intend to learn more.

Story
Benedict Cumberbatch reads the enduring classic of Franz Kafka's Metamorphosis. Gregor Samsa wakes to discover that he has turned into a large, monstrous insect-like creature. He attempts to adjust to his new condition as he deals with being burdensome to his parents and sister, who are repelled by the horrible creature he has become. First published in 1915, Kafka's darkly comic novella explores concepts such as the absurdity of life, alienation and the disconnect between mind and body.

There is something unnerving about this story that is wholly novel to how unnerving it was when I read it as a kid.

Great book. Bad editing
Reviewed: 04-10-24
There were several mispronounced words. And not big science ones. The narrator would flub words like “longitude”. I’m sure everyone that worked on this knows how to pronounce basic words so this makes me think it was bad editing.

Story
George Orwell depicts a gray, totalitarian world dominated by Big Brother and its vast network of agents, including the Thought Police - a world in which news is manufactured according to the authorities' will and people live tepid lives by rote. Winston Smith, a hero with no heroic qualities, longs only for truth and decency. But living in a social system in which privacy does not exist and where those with unorthodox ideas are brainwashed or put to death, he knows there is no hope for him.

How awful to see similarities in current reality. I’d feel bad for future generations but they won’t know any better anyway.

Narration not the best

Love the story. Performance was on the bland side. Not as bad as some of the reviews report… but certainly not good.
100% still worth the credit.

HARLIE is the first self-aware intelligence engine. But instead of answers, he has questions—too many questions, and most of his questions have no answers at all. Skip author’s preface!!!
Reviewed: 09-02-20
I wish I had skipped the author’s preface before the story. It adulterated how I would have organically experienced the story and characters. Listen to it after if you want to hear it.
Having said that, I loved the story. Rolled my eyes many times at the “love” parts.
David Gerrold’s reading got monotone sometimes but the story is still very enjoyable.

Story
At last, one of the world’s greatest works of science fiction is available - just as author Stanislaw Lem intended it. To mark the 50th anniversary of the publication of Solaris, Audible, in cooperation with the Lem Estate, has commissioned a brand-new translation - complete for the first time, and the first ever directly from the original Polish to English. Beautifully narrated by Alessandro Juliani ( Battlestar Galactica), Lem’s provocative novel comes alive for a new generation.

Great story...short ending
Reviewed: 07-14-14
Would you consider the audio edition of Solaris to be better than the print version?
I really enjoyed the way Alessandro Juliani read the story. I loved him from Battlestar, and he didn't disappoint in his voice acting.
Any additional comments?
The story was great. The ending came up pretty quick and uneventful. While the destination was a little lack luster, the journey getting there was very entertaining.
