Story
Peter Ash came home from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan with only one souvenir: what he calls his "white static", the buzzing claustrophobia due to post-traumatic stress that has driven him to spend a year roaming in nature, sleeping under the stars. But when a friend from the marines commits suicide, Ash returns to civilization to help the man's widow with some home repairs. Under her dilapidated porch, he finds more than he bargained for.

I loved the funny descriptions of Mingus and his escapades. A well researched story of the serious problems of returning vets, wrapped up in a well crafted mystery.

When Alexandra Witt joins the faculty at Stonebridge Academy, she’s hoping to put a painful past behind her. Then one of her creative writing assignments generates some disturbing responses from students. Before long, Alex is immersed in an investigation of the students atop the school’s social hierarchy - and their connection to something called the Darkroom. This was an excellent book. a stunning commentary of teen life in the digital age. The characters resonate, the dialogue is clear and carries the story along.
Interesting organization no “chapters” per se, just different perspectives from students and teachers in a private school. Once you start it you won’t want to stop.

I enjoyed this book and have listened to it several times. The story and performance are well done, although I find Len Cariou's attempt at a female voices comes out somewhat as whines. Not very appealing.

Story
Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he's alive - and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Chances are, though, he won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plainold "human error" are much more likely to kill him first.

A book for anyone
Reviewed: 11-12-15
I'm not a science-fiction fan. So when my 84 year old mother recommended this book I was not at all sure that I would enjoy it. However it's one of the best books I've read in a long time. It is a book about the human struggle to survive. It shows the many sides to the human character; happiness, sadness, frustration, determination, and humour. It speaks to young and old. Highly recommended.

He knows the mobsters and politicians--who are pretty much one and the same. Someone is systematically burning down the neighborhood Mulligan grew up in, people he knows and loves are perishing in the flames, and the public is on the verge of panic.

This is the seventh book in the series by Alan Bradley. This time Flavia travels to Toronto, Canada to attend a young ladies academy. As usual trouble seems to find young Flavia. She explores and investigates in her own special way. The story is well crafted and Flavia's inner dialogue is delightful.
