Great information

I live in Colorado where magic mushroom use has been decriminalized.
This is an excellent book with great information.
People ought not jump into the psychedelic experience without a greater understanding of the details laid out in this book.
Particularly the emphasis on set and setting.
You have to prepare just like you would any other trip.
Even moreso with psychedelics.

Kurt Vonnegut's first novel spins the chilling tale of engineer Paul Proteus, who must find a way to live in a world dominated by a supercomputer and run completely by machines. Paul's rebellion is vintage Vonnegut – wildly funny, deadly serious, and terrifyingly close to reality.

This book didn't captivate me as much as many of Vonnegut's other books but was still well worth the listen.
It definitely has the elements of his specific style.

I constantly have audiobooks going and try to leave fair reviews and rarely, if ever leave poor reviews.
This was bad from the start so I turned up the speed just to get through it.
Not good writing.
Cliched.
Predictable.
Full of redundant and unnecessary details.
It was advertised in Audible's deal of the day as a Mystery and Thriller.
It's neither.
Plenty of other good audiobooks to listen to.

Story
Several months after his neighborhood was cloaked in darkness and invaded by the demon-like denizens of a hellish world, life has returned to normal for Miah Gray, a.k.a. Laser Chicken. No longer burdened by PTSD, he is free to enjoy his family and to help pick up the pieces of a pillaged world. At night, he trains with his eight-year-old companion, Bree, a.k.a. Demon Dog, and their neighbors Henry and Sarah, the god-like descendants of Helen of Sparta and the mythological Zeus. All is calm...until new neighbors move in across the street and shatter the peace.

Story
Charlie Reade looks like a regular high school kid, great at baseball and football, a decent student. But he carries a heavy load. His mom was killed in a horrific accident when he was seven, and grief drove his dad to drink. Charlie learned how to take care of himself—and his dad. When Charlie is seventeen, he meets a dog named Radar and her aging master, Howard Bowditch, a recluse in a big house at the top of a big hill, with a locked shed in the backyard. Sometimes strange sounds emerge from that shed.

I've been reading Stephen King for 36 years. I enjoy even his poorly rated works.
No one writes characters and their back story better.
In my opinion some of his more recent works have suffered from sub par endings even if the rest of the book is fantastic.
This book is great from beginning to end.
Highly recommend.

Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Taylor is the name, John Taylor. My card says I'm a detective, but what I really am is an expert on finding lost things. It's part of the gift I was born with as a child of the Nightside. I left there a long time ago, with my skin and sanity barely intact. Now I make my living in the sunlit streets of London. But business has been slow lately, so when Joanna Barrett showed up at my door, reeking of wealth, asking me to find her runaway teenage daughter, I didn't say no.

Very original for fantasy/sci-fi.
Great characters.
Great story.
Original plot.
Suspenseful and surprising ending.

I've been reading Stephen King for 36 years. My Dad and his wife were fans and thankfully encouraged me to read IT at the tender age of 14.
This is one of my new favorites. It has many of the things I love about Stephen King's writings.
Billy Summers really stands out in the finer details of character development and interaction.
I normally don't comment on the narration. A good story is a good story regardless of the delivery.
The narration was absolutely fantastic and added to the listening experience.

There's lots of reasons a book could be considered "good", even objectively.
This books real strength was the characters, well narrated by multiple individuals.
By the end of the book I felt like I knew the main characters and even identified with them in ways both trivial and profound.
This book (provided you enjoy the genre) is well worth a listen.

Story
There’s been a breakthrough on the campus of Caltech. A discovery. An invention. One so startling and surprisingly sinister that the inventor can’t tell a soul. Precariously poised at the center of the action is Victoria Pixler, a bioengineering student with a tragic past, a passionate quest, and a brilliant mind. After a decade of dedication, she’s just completed her life’s work only to have her dream shattered and her career terminated - by the least likely suspect.
