Too long. Aimless, Didn't deliver
Reviewed: 03-02-22
This "wasn't for me". It started out ok but was very long and often meandering. The parts about exploring the origins of inequality etc. were promising but then the book really just settled into exhaustive detail on esoteric clans, tribes and glancing ideas of the possible paths for development of civilized society. Its fine to challenge the current beliefs on some social constructs but to merely postulate what else it could have been without any compelling evidence to support this new direction was disappointing. "But also could have been..." was a common phrase, These evidence-less challenges are best left for brady and fireplace times. The ending chapters where only more aimless, Overladen with unnecessary details of numerous native American cultures that collectively lost it way to what the story was expected to tell. I lost 23 hours of my reading life. Sorry

Story
You are just 10% human. For every one of the cells that make up the vessel that you call your body, there are nine impostor cells hitching a ride. You are not just flesh and blood, muscle and bone, brain and skin, but also bacteria and fungi. Over your lifetime, you will carry the equivalent weight of five African elephants in microbes. You are not an individual but a colony. Until recently, we had thought our microbes hardly mattered, but science is revealing a different story, one in which microbes run our bodies and becoming a healthy human is impossible without them.
