Best crime podcast, period!!
Reviewed: 01-22-25
Every episode feels like a ki with my girlfriends! I love that! I also love how they humanize all parties involved in the stories, even the "murderesses". After each episode I research the stories for a deeper dive into the players. Taz & Ma'Rah need their own true crime TV show.

Story
On her 17th birthday in 1973, Janice Hunter met Marvin Gaye - the soulful prince of Motown with the seductive liquid voice whose chart-topping, socially conscious album What's Going On made him a superstar two years earlier. Despite a 16-year-age difference and Marvin's marriage to the sister of Berry Gordy, Motown's founder, the star-struck teenager and the emotionally volatile singer began a scorching relationship.

Great story, flat narration
Reviewed: 02-15-24
This is a great story but the flat emotionless narration does a great disservice to the book. It's like Siri/Alexa/Google are reading the book to you. Jan Gaye's account of her live with Marvin is very interesting and feels very honest. I probably would have enjoyed it more if I read it instead of listening to the monotone narrator.

Story
Born on a plantation in Charles City, Virginia, Pheby Delores Brown has lived a relatively sheltered life. Shielded by her mother’s position as the estate’s medicine woman and cherished by the Master’s sister, she is set apart from the others on the plantation, belonging to neither world. She’d been promised freedom on her eighteenth birthday, but instead of the idyllic life she imagined with her true love, Essex Henry, Pheby is forced to leave the only home she has ever known. She unexpectedly finds herself thrust into the bowels of slavery at the infamous Devil’s Half Acre.

I'm not big into scifi but this book was highly recommended. It was a interesting story but it felt like it was dragged out too long. I forced myself to finish it but it was ok, just not my genre of literature.

Story
In his early 20s, Curtis Jackson, known as 50 Cent, rose to the heights of fame and power in the cutthroat music business. A decade ago, the multi-platinum selling rap artist decided to pivot. His ability to adapt to change was demonstrated when he became the executive producer and star of Power, a high-octane, gripping crime drama centered around a drug kingpin's family. The series quickly became "appointment" television, leading to Jackson inking a four-year, $150 million contract with the Starz network - the most lucrative deal in premium cable history.
