This series is an all time favorite of mine. The characters, plot, pacing, and suspense that keeps me coming back for more. I find these novels to be written intelligently with no super heroes, theatrics, or super powers. Realistic, with a suspense that keeps you turning pages. Great stories by a great author. The narration is perfect!

Read this book based on the reviews... This book is simply an average mystery, nothing special. Characters are interesting, plot is simplistic, dialogue is amateurish, and the ending is predictable. A good summer beach read, but greatly over rated as far as mysteries go. I was hoping for more, a new series to delve into based on the reviews. I will pass on the sequels... The plot, characters, and narration are great!!! I can only tell you I really enjoyed this story, and am sad the author gave up this genre for mysteries. The story reached out and grabbed me in with the characters. I empathized with their trial and tribulations and actually got emotional at different parts in the story. I highly recommend this book if you are into historical fiction!!!

Why we think it’s a great listen: A performance so poignant, we gave Bronson Pinchot (yes, Balki from Perfect Strangers) our inaugural Narrator of the Year award.... In the monsoon season of 1968-69 at a fire support base called Matterhorn, located in the remote mountains of Vietnam, a young and ambitious Marine lieutenant wants to command a company to further his civilian political ambitions. But two people stand in his way.

I was in the Marine Corps from 1965 - 1969. this book just did not ring true to me, sorry. Vietnam was a fiasco but I believe certain failures of the leadership were exaggerated to make a political point. The race issue was also something that seemed exploited and exaggerated. The story dragged on, was way too long and repetitive at times. I just thought it was poor overall and don't agree with all the rave reviews... Semper Fi!!!

Story
This novel by Carl Hiaasen, author of Tourist Season and Native Tongue, begins as most thrillers do, with a killing. But this is no everyday, hum-drum, garden variety killing. Our hero, Nick Stranahan, a 42-year-old private investigator who has killed five men and been married five times, skewers his attacker's aorta with the razor-sharp bill of a stuffed marlin.

Story
Most of the world remembers Crazy Horse as a peerless warrior who brought the U.S. Army to its knees at the Battle of Little Bighorn. But to his fellow Lakota Indians, he was a dutiful son and humble fighting man who, with valor, spirit, respect, and unparalleled leadership, fought for his people's land, livelihood, and honor. In this fascinating biography, Joseph Marshall, himself a Lakota Indian, creates a vibrant portrait of the man, his times, and his legacy.

What a pleasant surprise and lighthearted read!!! This was a great break away from the traditional mysteries and thrillers. A comical look at the sleaze bars, sleaze politicians, and the topless dancers who live in that world. At times you caught yourself laughing out loud and then empathy for the victims... I enjoyed this read and will find the time in the future to take another break from serious and somber world of the traditional thrillers... Recommend this book highly if you need a good summer read or a change of pace. Just don't take it too seriously. Go with it and enjoy!!!
