This Book Will Empower You
Reviewed: 12-20-19
I was very skeptical of Dave's methods before I started listening to and applying the principles of this book, but no longer. I've never felt more in control of my own finances than when applying the principles of the total money makeover. This isn't a book that will coddle you. This stuff is hard. It requires unlearning a bunch of myths that exist out in the world. It requires as much of an internal change of mindset as it does an outward change of behaviour. Once done, however, it truly does transform your life for the better. Debt is not a tool!

Story
In 1914, the First World War ignited a brutal conflict in North America, with the United States finally defeating the Confederate States. In 1917, the Great War ended and an era of simmering hatred began, fueled by the despotism of a few and the sacrifice of many. Now it's 1942. The USA and CSA are locked in a tangle of jagged, blood-soaked battle lines, modern weaponry, desperate strategies, and the kind of violence that only the damned could conjure up for their enemies and themselves.

Story
As the Socialist Party battles Coolidge to retain the presidency in 1924, it seems as if it can do no wrong. The stock market soars, and the USA prospers. Although victors in the War of Secession, the CSA still reels from its loss of the Great War while the Freedom Party promises new vigor and pride. But should these gray-shirted fascists seize power, they may prove dangerous. Sharing world supremacy with Germany and bloated with prosperity, the USA fails to notice ominous events inside the weakened CSA.

Story
Consider this other 1920: Imperial Germany has become the most powerful nation in the world. In 1914, she crushed England, France, and Russia in a war that was short but entirely devastating. By 1920, Kaiser Wilhelm II is looking for new lands to devour. The United States is fast becoming an economic super-power and the only nation that can conceivably threaten Germany. The U.S. is militarily inept, however, and is led by a sick and delusional president who wants to avoid war at any price.

Alt History at its best
Reviewed: 06-22-18
Even the legendary Turtledove would have to tip his hat to this book. Great introduction into the alternate timeline, great use of both fictional and real life characters, and it all ends with a can't stop listening climactic battle. Story is easily a 9 out of 10 possibly even a perfect 10.
Performance was also fantastic. Many other audiobooks in this genre have performers who totally botch the accents they are going for. Not so here. The performer made excellent use of his voice to distinguish the myriad of characters from one another in a completely believable way. Astounding work!
If you are at all into alt history this is a must listen and even if you aren't give it a go anyway.

Factual, historical and we'll written recollection

If you are even considering reading this, do it. This book offers a compelling recollection of the failures and subsequent fall of the failed communist states in Eastern Europe from the Brezhnev period up until the fall of Ceausescu in Romania.
