Not what I expected
Reviewed: 11-22-24
I expected something a little more mature. This book is more for late teens. A tree as the father-- that was a bit too silly for me. Sadly, I didn't finish the book.

awful narrator
Reviewed: 07-19-24
I wanted to like this book but just couldn't. The author narrates the book as though she's doing a podcast. She uses overly dramatic poetic style reading, pausing every few words. She reads in that overly fake sing-song soft voice- ick. And, she laughs at her own jokes that aren't even funny. Her horrible narration makes it hard to hear the message of the book. I couldn't even finish this one. Don't waste your credit unless you just need something to put you to sleep

Story
Maeve McKenna is on the verge of a breakdown. Having worked herself into the ground as a sought-after interior designer in London, she’s in desperate need of a vacation. Philomena Duffy is a little lonely. After losing her husband, their crumbling mansion, Willow House, feels awfully empty. With the rugged shores of Ireland calling, Maeve visits her aunt Philomena in Sandy Cove, where she once, as a teenager, kissed a wild, mysterious boy - a kiss she has never been able to forget.

Story started out ok but by the time the laptop was opened it was obvious what the uncle was up to. The plot fell flat. The narrator was annoying-- the male book editor sounded so pompous and the male bookstore owner sounded like a 13 yr old girl.
Sorry I wasted a credit on this one. I really wanted to like it.

Story
A fresh look at the wheel of the year, drawing on the power of intuition to create rituals and celebrations in harmony with your own traditions, your locale, and the climate of where you live. Year of the Witch will help listeners create their own intuitive practices in harmony with the climate, culture, and local spirits where they live. It's of interest to witches coming off the Wiccan path and looking for a more personal approach to celebrating the rhythms of nature.

I bought this hoping that it would help me set goals and keep me focused. Don't bother if that's what you're looking for. This contains a lot of bizarre imagery-- see yourself in a movie theater.
She opens the book by spending 15 min going through an evening routine set as a meditation. All I kept thinking was 'holy cow can we just drink the dumb tea already'.
She relies heavily on positive affirmations which have very little science that shows their effectiveness.
This book is supposed to be a helpful relaxing guide but I got more and more annoyed as time went on. I couldn't get past the first hour of this book and I do mediate and practice mindfulness....
I wish I could easily return this book and get something else, but, nope can't do that with the new changes to audible. Guess I wasted a credit.

Story
You are about to travel to Edgecombe St. Mary, a small village in the English countryside filled with rolling hills, thatched cottages, and a cast of characters both hilariously original and as familiar as the members of your own family. Among them is Major Ernest Pettigrew (retired), the unlikely hero of Helen Simonson's wondrous debut. Wry, courtly, opinionated, and completely endearing, Major Pettigrew is one of the most indelible characters in contemporary fiction, and from the very first page of this remarkable novel he will steal your heart.

Overall, a good story. I grew to adore the Major.
The story added a plot twist towards the end that seemed to have been shoved in. Other than that, it's a sweet book about a man and woman taking a chance on friendship and love.
