A whole bunch of nothing rambling on and on and on. Pretentious and melancholic. Chapters are really short (2-4m) and extremely annoying when you hear “chapter xyz” every 3 minutes. Probably 10%+ of the length is chapter names

Story
Stories of Your Life and Others presents characters who must confront sudden change-the inevitable rise of automatons or the appearance of aliens-while striving to maintain some sense of normalcy. In the amazing and much-lauded title story (the basis for the 2016 movie Arrival), a grieving mother copes with divorce and the death of her daughter by drawing on her knowledge of alien languages and non-linear memory recollection.

Speculative fiction
Reviewed: 01-22-25
Although this book is categorized as sci-fi, it's leans more speculative fiction. He writes as a medium to pose questions and discuss them through characters, which is fine, but I didn't find a lot of the topics in the book interesting.
Todd McLaren does a great job. Abby Craden does good voice-acting but has a habit of emphasizing the last syllable in every sentence, which drives me insane...

I read this book because I just finished the Witcher 3 game and wanted more Witcher stories. I love the short story format because each one feels like a quest.
Peter Kenny is just phenomenal with his voice acting. All the characters are distinct and consistent, which greatly enhances the experience since the book is heavy on dialogues. There’s even a “goat” character for whom Kenny did a great job. I’m super excited for the rest of the books and so glad the series has an outstanding narrator.

Story
Carolyn's not so different from the other human beings around her. After all, she was a normal American herself once. That was a long time ago, of course - before the time she calls "adoption day", when she and a dozen other children found themselves being raised by a man they learned to call Father.

One of the best narrators I’ve listened to. She does a great job at different voices for different characters and really adds to the story.
The book can be a little hard to get into. Things are not laid out plainly. I started to get it after chapter 4 and ended up restarting, which was great. Didn’t love the ending so 4/5

She’ll have to spend the night in the rest stop with four complete strangers. Then she stumbles across a little girl locked inside one of their parked cars.
