Middle of the road

This book was ok. I mainly liked it because I’m a huge fan of the Great British Baking show but I agree with other reviews that have said the author doesn’t really get what is so great about that show. It was entertaining enough though I wouldn’t recommend it as a top pick.

Story
Sam and Sadie—two college friends, often in love, but never lovers—become creative partners in a dazzling and intricately imagined world of video game design, where success brings them fame, joy, tragedy, duplicity, and, ultimately, a kind of immortality. It is a love story, but not one you have heard before.

Creative, entertaining, and a unique story

I loved this book, it was one that I didn’t want to end. The writing is strong and the story itself, based on a long term friendship between the two main characters, is unique in its focus on video games and in the evolution of the relationship itself. One of the top ten best audio books I’ve listened to.

Story
Chemist Elizabeth Zott is not your average woman. In fact, Elizabeth Zott would be the first to point out that there is no such thing as an average woman. But it’s the early 1960s and her all-male team at Hastings Research Institute takes a very unscientific view of equality. Except for one: Calvin Evans; the lonely, brilliant, Nobel–prize nominated grudge-holder who falls in love with—of all things—her mind. True chemistry results.

A unique and interesting book
Reviewed: 05-06-23
This book is well written and the story itself is interesting and unique. The characters are well developed, right down to the dog who’s name is 6:30, and he plays a minor yet important role. The characterization of sexism in science is also, unfortunately, relatable. But this is an empowerment narrative, and a welcome one at that.

Story
Esme is born into a world of words. Motherless and irrepressibly curious, she spends her childhood in the Scriptorium, an Oxford garden shed in which her father and a team of dedicated lexicographers are collecting words for the very first Oxford English Dictionary. Young Esme’s place is beneath the sorting table, unseen and unheard. One day a slip of paper containing the word bondmaid flutters beneath the table. She rescues the slip and, learning that the word means “slave girl,” begins to collect other words discarded or neglected by the dictionary men.

Beautiful story

This was a beautiful story of listening, friendship, language, and power. The narration was fantastic, and make sure to listen the the author describe the project at the end.
