A cute, fun listen

I’m now addicted to Lyssa Kay Adams’ books. I liked this one even more than bromance book club. It is a charming, easy listen with loveable Quirky characters who hold a refreshingly sweet viewpoint of women.

Story
Lucy Barton is recovering slowly from what should have been a simple operation. Her mother, to whom she hasn’t spoken for many years, comes to see her. Gentle gossip about people from Lucy’s childhood in Amgash, Illinois, seems to reconnect them, but just below the surface lie the tension and longing that have informed every aspect of Lucy’s life: her escape from her troubled family, her desire to become a writer, her marriage, her love for her two daughters. Knitting this powerful narrative together is the brilliant storytelling voice of Lucy herself.

Good enough to listen to but not to really enjoy

Any additional comments?
I listened to this book because my Mom read it in book club and just loved it. I didn't have quite the same experience. I got a sort of "woe is me" vibe from the entire thing, without it being sad enough to be shocking or engaging. I got through the whole thing (while doing other things mind you) Generally just a boring book. If you were a writer with kids and and maybe you could relate to the author a little more than I could.

Story
Why we think it’s a great listen: Some books are meant to be read; others are meant to be heard – Water for Elephants falls into the second group, and is one of the best examples we have of how a powerful performance enhances a great story. Nonagenarian Jacob Jankowski reflects back on his wild and wondrous days with a circus. It's the Depression Era and Jacob, finding himself parentless and penniless, joins the Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth.

I loved this book from start to finish. There was never a dull moment! The narration and story got me hooked and deeply involved with the characters. the narration was well done in both older and young Jacob and the musical tracks really added a feel of reality to the book. I loved learning about the Circus even though it was sad. Get caught up in the world of Water for Elephants!
I cannot recommend it enough!

Loved it!

I thought this book was excellent, I really have no complaints, the story was very engaging and the narrator did a good job. It was similar to the giver in that the society in which they lived in was very strict and controlling of everything. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

I was surprised to find that I really enjoyed this series. I thought the characters were well thought out and easy to relate to. Unlike many series, the books really got better and better so I would suggest reading all three books. After I read this one I decided to keep reading even though I wasnt totally in love with the book, and I am really glad I did!
I also love how the author composes and performs all the music in the audio book, I even downloaded them ;) The narrators did a good job too. I liked the different speakers for the separate characters narrating .

irritating

The only thing I really liked about this book was the narration. collins always does a wonderful job.
as far as story goes I thought it was shallow and useless. I did not like how Stephan became a ruthless killer with no kind of ethical remorse i found it disgusting and out of character.he went from an obedient spineless boy to a random killer. i also didnt like how he just keeps falling in love with whatever pretty girl he sees and decides he wants. I thought she book lacked depth and just seemed like a pointless filler story with no real purpose overall. I found myself scoffing and rolling my eyes through the whole thing, irritated with the story and especially the main character.
