Story
Cassie Andrews works in a New York City bookshop, shelving books, making coffee for customers, and living an unassuming, ordinary life. Until the day one of her favorite customers—a lonely yet charming old man—dies right in front of her. Cassie is devastated. She always loved his stories, and now she has nothing to remember him by. Nothing but the last book he was reading. But this is no ordinary book… It is the Book of Doors. Inscribed with enigmatic words and mysterious drawings, it promises Cassie that any door is every door. You just need to know how to open them.

Grateful I Opened This Door
Reviewed: 04-12-24
Where to begin. I typically read book series because I love to live in the world the author builds for an extended period, when it’s done right of course. And oh how I wish I could stay in the world Mr. Brown built in this beautiful book just a little longer.
I’m so grateful I opened the door to a new author I knew nothing about because the end of The Book of Doors left me emotionally spent and fulfilled at the same time. I promptly recommended it to all my book loving friends and I encourage anyone reading this review to do the same.
The characters are richly developed, the world exquisitely painted, the story intricately woven. A must read.

A Definite Standout in the Genre
Reviewed: 05-09-23
Let me start by saying I love epic fantasy books, and relish a series even more. It takes time to world build, character build, move the plot and get the reader invested.
Many authors in this genre do this flimsily and fill the gaps with spice. That just doesn’t do it for me. I do like a little romance mixed in as long as it’s not simply done to pander to readers. Carissa Broadbent gets it right where others get it wrong. And it’s oh so refreshing and wildly addicting.
I found the characters complex and endearing. I found the plot compelling but rich with the tropes I adore. I found a new author I will undoubtedly follow for more amazing stories.
It took me a little time to get used to the narrator but I grew to love her, too. I’m so enraptured that I may just have to purchase the actual book (I’m a devout audio listener) because I can’t wait for the release of the audible in August. It’s that good!

My New Favorite Author
Reviewed: 12-17-20
Where to begin with this book, this series. It fed my soul when I needed it most. Not to be too cliche, but I laughed out loud, I ugly cried, and I couldn’t stop talking about it even with those who were clearly uninterested. Kristoff is my new favorite author, hands down. The characters are dark, flawed, and all the more endearing for it. The tale is bloody, tragic, and dramatically epic. I will now read every book my gentle friend has penned. All I can say is thank you for taking me on this journey in 2020. Goddess knows I needed it. Just. Read. It.
