Story
Cuba, 1936: When Estelita Rodriguez sings in a hazy Havana nightclub for the very first time, she is nine years old. From then on, that spotlight of adoration - from Havana to New York’s Copacabana and then Hollywood - becomes the one true accomplishment no one can take from her. Not the 1933 Cuban Revolution that drove her family into poverty. Not the revolving door of husbands or the fickle world of film.

What an interesting story and the back forth letter writing fit perfect with the narrative. Thanks so much for writing this story.

Story
Head-in-the-stars Audrey is about to marry down-to-earth Josh. Though they are polar opposites, they have a healthy relationship; Josh is just what Audrey needs. But romance should be unpredictable and full of fireworks, and as the big day approaches, Audrey’s found herself wondering if Josh really is "The One." When Josh’s sister shows up to the rehearsal dinner with Fred, Audrey’s "What If? guy"—the man she met six years ago and had one amazing day with—Audrey finds herself torn. Surely Fred’s appearance the night before she is due to get married can’t be a coincidence.

This title turned out to be much deeper than I expected. I’m glad it wasn’t. There were lots of good messages here. Maybe a little too heavy handed at times. But it served it purpose. I wish this would happen in many places throughout the US.

I’m afraid the main character was sometimes mean and I had trouble relating to her. There was also too much fighting. The idea was cute and the male interests were great.

Story
For a moment in the 1980s, Carolyn Pfeiffer was the only woman in Hollywood who could greenlight a movie. Working with directors like Sam Shepard and Wes Craven, and with actors like River Phoenix and Bette Davis, she had a hand in producing or distributing many landmark films, among them Ridley Scott's The Duellists, Alan Rudolph's Choose Me, and the Academy Award-winning Kiss of the Spider Woman. However, long before establishing herself as a player in the world of film, Carolyn was a horseback-riding tomboy who dreamed of exploring the world beyond her small hometown.

I tend to not like memoirs but this book is the exception. It’s not a tell all book but a story about a remarkable woman who happened to be present during an historic time in cinema. There’s no trashing of people here. Just an appreciation of the art of film
Making and the people who make it possible.

The story of Nathan Leopold is compelling and upsetting. He seemed to always feel entitled without remorse for the crime he committed. The author tells the story without bias but still points out the ironies of his life using an excellent narrative format. It’s an excellent true crime story that reveals the character of the criminal by telling the story of his life after the crime.

Story
Patrick, or Gay Uncle Patrick (GUP, for short), has always loved his niece, Maisie, and nephew, Grant. That is, he loves spending time with them when they come out to Palm Springs for weeklong visits, or when he heads home to Connecticut for the holidays. But in terms of caretaking and relating to two children, no matter how adorable, Patrick is, honestly, overwhelmed. So when tragedy strikes and Maisie and Grant lose their mother and Patrick's brother has a health crisis of his own, Patrick finds himself suddenly taking on the role of primary guardian.
