Story
Why does the allegiance that radical terrorists give to their false cause exceed the allegiance that most Christians today give to Jesus Christ? In Insurgence, best-selling author Frank Viola presents a radical proposal for Christians. Namely, that we have lost the explosive, earthshaking gospel of the kingdom that Jesus, Paul, and the other apostles preached. Viola argues that we've lost this dynamic, titanic, living gospel and exchanged it for a gospel of religious duty or permissiveness and "easy believism."

Cultic marketing resurrects supersessionist Rom 11 failures. Yawn.
Reviewed: 07-01-24
Supersessionism is over. The rest of the book is "I know this topic, nobody ever has known it as well as I do, trust me bro". Over 3-4 chapters in before you even get into defining the topic, according to Number One Best Topic Master Author (^tm). But not before you get the kool-aid spiel of promise to read the whole thing, like, share, subscribe to this ideology or you're missing out. Again, trust me bro. This book is perfect for either the ignorant or those with patience for ego stroking manipulation tactics. Highly recommend to read only in the month June.

Story
Why don't Christians in the church today keep the biblical sabbath? Was the observance of the seventh-day sabbath done away with, canceled, changed, replaced, fulfilled, made obsolete, suppressed, hijacked, or simply forgotten? Even if you already know the answers, you'll want to listen to this book. From Sabbath to Sabbath approaches the question of the sabbath from a completely new messianic Jewish perspective.

Acquired a greater appreciation for Jesus legal and ethical arguments with his contemporaries regarding how to best obey God. Traditional and modern Christianity's disdain for its Jewish roots has become so tiresome and is antithetical to everything Jesus ever said, so I appreciated this book actually accounted for historical context of the gospel and epistolic literature. Keep em coming, FFOZ. Ruth 1:16

The Gospel of Christ Crucified

Story
The Gospel of Christ Crucified offers a biblical reconstruction of the principal elements that make up the apostolic gospel. Assuming a first-century Jewish worldview, the apostles understood the death of Jesus primarily in sacrificial terms for the atonement of sins. In this way, their presupposed expectations of the future and eternal life remained fundamentally unaltered - the day of the Lord, resurrection of the dead, and kingdom of God would assuredly come because their Messiah had been vindicated by God.

Comprehensive dive into the gospel
Reviewed: 12-12-23
Loved the historical explication of the Jewish, Latin, and Greek worldviews that have led to vastly different understandings of the gospel. Further appreciate that the gospel is put in context of the story of history, beginning (protology), middle (age of mercy), and end (eschatological day of the Lord). While I appreciate the thorough sourcing throughout the book, it does get a bit tedious to listen to in audible format. If only this was broken further down into Twitter Gen sized shareable pieces. For the youths.

Story
The Epistle of James says that anyone who considers him - or herself to be religious yet does not tame his tongue is self deceived. James says that such a person's religion is worthless. On the other hand, James refers to the person who tames his or her tongue as a perfect person. That's a stark contrast. There's a big difference between being a self-deceived person engaging in worthless religious practice, and being perfect or complete. If we take these words of the Bible seriously, we need to start taking our own words far more seriously then we normally do.

Mike will forever be one of the greats because in all his efforts, he has considered his audience as more important than himself (Phil 2:3). His respect for the intelligence of his listeners has been evidenced by his fearlessly digging into the meatier portions of the word with us over the years, and has in no small part encouraged many to leave the pablum of comfortable Churchianity behind in search of the Way of Truth to Life. Proverbs 23:23 tells us buy truth, and do not sell it, Get wisdom and instruction and understanding. Mike's gift of instruction, understanding, and wisdom, along with testing of difficult areas, has been an audible journey of gold refinement. Definitely worth an exchange of one's time. May the Lord bless you all.

1828. Robin Swift, orphaned by cholera in Canton, is brought to London by the mysterious Professor Lovell. There, he trains for years in Latin, Ancient Greek, and Chinese, all in preparation for the day he’ll enroll in Oxford University’s prestigious Royal Institute of Translation—also known as Babel. Babel is the world's center for translation and, more importantly, magic. Silver working—the art of manifesting the meaning lost in translation using enchanted silver bars—has made the British unparalleled in power, as its knowledge serves the Empire’s quest for colonization.

was like listening to a slow reader recap the highlights of a buzzfeed list. common sense listed out isn't particularly helpful, especially in a genre where listeners tend to already be in tune with common sense. if you have to tell listeners to Google something, then listening isn't going to impart much useful information. tell us where to get gamma seals or mylar bags or whether one is more useful than another for specific food items. I had to quit at 'buy tinned foods'. come on.

Best Bible Teacher I’ve found

Glad to have found Mike on Audible
Reviewed: 02-16-22
I dislike YouTube when listening to long podcasts or teachings because it drains my phone battery and I'm not paying to have YT keep running when I turn my screen off. Tried the BibleThinker app, which crashes randomly. Audible is my reliable go-to for listening throughout the day, with zero ad interruption, and I'm so happy to have found Mike's work here.
Been binging BibleThinker on YT for about six months now, have only found a handful of things I disagreed with, but I never disagree with the godly manner in which Mike presents himself and his information. When I run into those tough gotcha questions that trolls like to throw down, I have started consulting Mike to see if he has a perspective on the matter, especially if I hadn't heard of some issue before. Thanks for pointing us to other great apologists and podcasts as well.
May our Lord continue to bless your ministry, now more than ever, in Jesus name.
