Story
In pitch-perfect voices, Kathryn Stockett creates three extraordinary women whose determination to start a movement of their own forever changes a town, and the way women—mothers, daughters, caregivers, friends—view one another. A deeply moving novel filled with poignancy, humor, and hope, The Help is a timeless and universal story about the lines we abide by, and the ones we don't.

I loved this book; the story is fantastic. It is mainly about 2 maids in the south in the 1960's, and the mood and voice really speaks. The reader gets a historical account, and a scary, yet oddly uplifting story at the same time. Narrators are great!

Story
In June of 1860 three-year-old Saville Kent was found at the bottom of an outdoor privy with his throat slit. The crime horrified all England and led to a national obsession with detection. At the time, the detective was a relatively new invention; there were only eight detectives in all of England and rarely were they called out of London, but this crime was so shocking that Scotland Yard sent its best man to investigate, Inspector Jonathan Whicher.

I expected so much more..

This book was in Time, and Newsweek, and the NYT, and maybe my expectations were high, but I was bored, and I am not easily bored. The story with the oh-so-quick delivery just irritated me. I also give myself one star on my choice.

I loved this book; it was so well written and so interesting. Even if I did not know who it was modeled after, the story would have been interesting anyway. I was very impressed and it was nice to make a good choice. The narrator was great too.

The story took too long to get into, and I kept going back reading reviews after 2-3 hours as to why I should love this book. I didn't.

The exploration of the inuit was fascinating, even if a little too graphic (guts and all) at times, but I really liked this and I don't often read this type of material. Worth every penny and makes up for the book "so called picked by audible experts list" where a book or choice is too often wasted.

Story
Drew Danner, a crime novelist with a house off L.A.'s storied Mulholland Drive, awakens in a hospital bed with a scar on his head and no memory of being found convulsing over his ex-fiancee's body the previous night. He was discovered holding a knife, her blood beneath his nails. He himself doesn't know whether he's guilty or innocent. To reconstruct the story, the writer must now become the protagonist, searching the corridors of his life and the city he loves.

depressing, bad narration
Reviewed: 12-24-08
This book is depressing even for a crime thriller, the main character just went thud for me despite Scott Brick (and I usually like Brick a lot) and his OVER-narration; he just goes way too far here, it is performance art gone crazy. Unless you love the writer, and even if you do, THINK TWICE.
