Story
The Quantum Thief is a dazzling hard SF novel set in the solar system of the far future - a heist novel peopled by bizarre post-humans but powered by very human motives of betrayal, revenge and jealousy. It is a stunning debut. Jean le Flambeur is a post-human criminal, mind burglar, confidence artist and trickster.

Wonderfully read but hard to get through.

The story from the beginning could do with a more in depth overview of the universe the writer has created. The book is wonderfully read and produced.

What disappointed you about The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy?
It's a reasonably funny book, but unfortunately the actual decent laughs are few and far between. It's possible the writer was as high as a kite when he wrote it and perhaps one needs to be in a similar state to truly enjoy it. Fry does a pretty good job but he can't make comedy gold out of the material. I'm just surprised it's so popular considering it's mediocrity.

Story
More than 3,000 years have passed since the first events recorded in Dune. Only one link survives with those tumultuous times: the grotesque figure of Leto Atreides, son of the prophet Paul Muad'Dib, and now the virtually immortal God Emperor of Dune. He alone understands the future, and he knows with a terrible certainty that the evolution of his race is at an end unless he can breed new qualities into his species.
