Great book

As a devoted follower of Mari Silva's work and a spiritual seeker myself, I can confidently say that "Angel Numbers" is a remarkable addition to her collection. Having experienced my spiritual awakening four years ago, I found myself increasingly aware of angel numbers, especially towards the end of 2024 and into 2025. It was almost as if these numbers began to weave themselves into the fabric of my daily life, prompting me to jot them down for further exploration.
Mari Silva's writing is direct and insightful, making it easy for readers to grasp the essence of angel numbers. The book efficiently covers the key aspects that anyone interested in this topic would need to know. I appreciated her straightforward approach, as it allows readers to dive right into the information without unnecessary embellishments.
However, one area where I felt the book could have been enhanced is in the detailed explanations of specific angel numbers. While Silva does provide insights into numbers like 8, I longed for a more comprehensive breakdown of numbers such as 777, 1111, and 888. It would have been beneficial to have a section dedicated to the meanings of these numbers in various contexts, such as love, career, and new beginnings. I understand that this would require extensive work given the vast array of numbers, but it would have added an extra layer of depth to an already great book.
Overall, "Angel Numbers" is an excellent resource for anyone looking to deepen their understanding of these spiritual messages. Despite my desire for more detailed explanations, the book is a valuable guide for interpreting angel numbers and their significance in our lives. I wholeheartedly recommend it to fellow spiritual seekers who are eager to explore the divine messages that surround us every day.

Mamah Borthwick was an energetic, intelligent, and charismatic woman who earned a master's degree at a time when few women even attended college, translated writings by a key figure of the early feminist movement, and taught at one of Germany's best schools for boys. She is best known, however, as the mistress of the famous American architect Frank Lloyd Wright, and for her shocking murder at the renowned Wisconsin home he built for her, Taliesin.

I’ve had this book by Mark Borthwick on my shelf for over two years, hesitating to dive in because I knew I would have to confront the painful ending of Mamah Borthwick's life. Those who know me well are aware of my deep affection for *Loving Frank*, a book that holds a special place in my heart. My connection to Mamah Borthwick is profound; she was indeed a brave and lovely woman, someone who endured unimaginable hardships in her quest for happiness.
Mamah's story resonates with me because she faced judgment and adversity simply because of her gender. I often find myself reflecting on the idea of reincarnation, feeling as though I share a special connection with her—almost as if I knew her in a past life. The bond I feel is inexplicable, yet I believe her beautiful soul lives on, transcending time and existing now in a different body, but still radiating kindness and love.
While Frank Lloyd Wright is certainly famous, it's crucial not to overlook Mamah, who risked everything in pursuit of love and happiness during a time when women had so few rights. She was an educated woman, one of the first to earn a master’s degree, and her courage to defy societal norms is truly inspiring. To the man who took her life, I hope karma has made you pay for hurting someone who had so much hope for a brighter future for women.
Borthwick has done an excellent job of researching Mamah’s life, providing a more authentic version of her story. If you want to understand Mamah Borthwick and her remarkable journey, I highly recommend this book. Mamah, may your love and kindness continue to shine wherever you are.

Wow, just wow! "The Tea Rose" is an incredible read—long, yes, but absolutely worth every page. I've never felt such a deep connection to a character like I did with Fiona. She endures unimaginable pain and hardship, yet her spirit never wavers. Even after losing everyone she loves, Fiona relentlessly pursues her dreams, breaking barriers in a time when women were often denied the chance to start their own businesses.
I don’t want to give too much away, but the beginning of the book is heart-wrenching. I’ve honestly never cried so much over a book before—I even considered putting it down at one point! But Fiona's journey is one of resilience, and she ultimately finds her tribe along the way. One of my favorite characters was Nick; I was utterly devastated when he died. I apologize for the spoiler, but it was such a pivotal moment in the story.
The love story between Fiona and Joe is beautifully crafted. Both of them are deeply in love but believe they must stay apart, and after a grueling ten years, they finally reunite. The twist at the end of the book is mind-blowing—I won't spoil it, but trust me, it's one of those moments that leaves you speechless.
If you can push through the initial painful chapters, you’ll find a narrative filled with hope and strength. I’m so grateful this is part of a series, and I can’t help but wish it would be adapted into a movie; it deserves to be seen on the big screen.
The Tea Rose is truly one of the best books I’ve ever read. Did I cry? Absolutely, and I wouldn't trade that experience for anything. The ending brings a sense of joy and fulfillment that leaves you eager for the next installment. I can't wait to see where Fiona's journey takes her in part two!

Story
Michel Faber’s tale of love and lust in the Victorian-era The Crimson Petal and the White was hailed as “a Dickensian novel for our times.” Now a major BBC TV drama, the saga of a prostitute named Sugar and the man who longs to possess her captured hearts and left fans desperate for more (The Guardian, UK). In The Apple, Faber returns to Silver Street to find it still teeming with life, and conjures further tantalizing glimpses of Sugar, Clara, William, Mr. Bodley, and many other favorites.

Michel Faber's *The Apple and the Crimson Petal Stories* is a masterful continuation of the narrative that began in *The Crimson Petal and the White*. In just three days, I found myself completely immersed in this richly woven tale, a testament to Faber's ability to draw readers in with his compelling storytelling.
The follow-up dives deeper into the lives of its characters, particularly Sophie, whose fate had left me with lingering questions after the first book. Faber does a commendable job of addressing some of these queries, shedding light on Sophie's journey and her experiences as an adult and mother. However, there are still gaps that leave readers yearning for more details—especially regarding her childhood growing up with Sugar. While Sugar is portrayed as a capable caregiver, the absence of her backstory after leaving William's home feels like a missed opportunity to explore her character further.
Additionally, the fate of Agnes remains a mystery that lingers throughout the narrative. Faber skillfully crafts a world filled with rich detail, but I couldn't help but wish for a more conclusive resolution regarding Agnes's storyline. This sense of unresolved tension adds to the allure of the book, yet it also leaves a bittersweet taste as I closed its pages.
Overall, *The Apple and the Crimson Petal Stories* is a powerful sequel that captivates and engages, providing satisfying answers while also provoking deeper questions. Faber's writing is both evocative and immersive, making it a worthwhile read for anyone who enjoyed the first installment. Even with its unanswered questions, the story remains remarkable, showcasing Faber's talent for character development and storytelling. I highly recommend this book to fans of the original as well as newcomers who appreciate rich, character-driven narratives.

"Ash" by Malinda Lo is a reimagining of the classic Cinderella tale, but unfortunately, it fell flat for me. The narrative feels overly simplistic, as if it were tailored for a younger audience, which detracted from the depth and complexity I was hoping to find. The characters lacked the development needed to engage the reader, and the plot didn't offer enough intrigue or excitement to hold my interest. While some may appreciate its fairy-tale charm, I found it to be lacking in substance, leaving me wanting more. Overall, "Ash" didn't resonate with me as a captivating or mature retelling of a beloved story.

The end is very disappointing, but it's an amazing book.
Reviewed: 10-01-24
“The Crimson Petal and the White" is one of my favorite books, a captivating exploration of love, ambition, and the stark realities of Victorian London. However, I must confess that I am quite disappointed with the ending, which leaves many questions unanswered. This lack of resolution was frustrating, especially after being so deeply invested in the characters and their journeys. Nonetheless, Michel Faber’s ability to seize your attention from the very first page is remarkable; I was hooked immediately and found it hard to put the book down.
The story centers around Sugar, a young girl whose unfortunate upbringing forces her into a life of prostitution. Faber portrays her struggles with such raw honesty, allowing readers to connect with her plight on a personal level. Sugar’s character is complex and dynamic, showcasing resilience and a yearning for a better life. Her chance encounter with William, a well-off gentleman, sparks a transformative relationship that highlights themes of dependency, hope, and the harsh realities of their respective social standings. Their bond is compelling, as they both help each other navigate their difficult lives. Sugar’s influence on William is profound; without her, he might never have had the courage to take over his father’s company, demonstrating how intertwined their fates really are.
While the main narrative is gripping, my favorite character was Agnes, William’s wife. Her story arc is one of the most poignant elements of the book. Faber intricately weaves Agnes's struggles into the fabric of the narrative, making her character deeply relatable. However, the way her character ends is incredibly upsetting, leaving me in tears. I found myself emotionally invested in her fate, hoping that each chapter would provide clarity and answers regarding her situation. Unfortunately, the ambiguity surrounding Agnes’s character was disheartening, and her ultimate fate was left shrouded in confusion.
The ending of the book felt abrupt and unresolved, leaving me with a sense of dissatisfaction. There were so many unanswered questions, particularly regarding Agnes, that I couldn't help but feel let down. The lack of closure for her character, in particular, was a significant disappointment. I yearned for a deeper understanding of what happened to her and how her story intertwined with Sugar and William’s narratives. Each chapter had me hoping for answers, yet I was left with more confusion than clarity.
Despite these unresolved threads, "The Crimson Petal and the White" is a remarkable read that showcases Faber's exceptional storytelling abilities. The vivid descriptions and intricate character development keep you engaged throughout the book, creating an unforgettable reading experience. Faber immerses readers in the sights, sounds, and feelings of Victorian London, making it almost feel like a character in its own right. The rich prose and emotional depth of the characters make it impossible to walk away unscathed by their journeys. while I truly enjoyed "The Crimson Petal and the White," the lack of resolution in the ending was a significant drawback for me. It felt as though there were no answers to the questions raised in the chapters before, leaving me with a sense of longing for more clarity. Nonetheless, the journey through this beautifully woven narrative was worthwhile, filled with rich storytelling and unforgettable characters. It's a book that, despite its flaws, remains a compelling exploration of the human condition and the complexities of life in a bygone era.

Story
Discover the extraordinary diaries of the real Anne Lister. When this volume of Anne Lister's diaries was first published in 1988, it was hailed as a vital piece of lost lesbian history. The editor, Helena Whitbread, had spent years painstakingly researching and transcribing Lister's extensive journals, much of which were written in an elaborate code - what Lister called her 'crypthand', which allowed her to record her life in intimate, and at times, explicit, detail. Until then, Anne Lister's lesbianism had been supressed or hinted at; this was the first time her story had been told.

Reviewed: 05-20-24
“The Secret Diaries of Miss Anne Lister" is a powerful and captivating book that delves into the life of Anne Lister, a remarkable woman who lived in the 1800s. I would like to express my gratitude to Helena Whitbread for her meticulous translation of Anne's secret code, which allowed us to explore Anne's lesbian relationships with various lovers.
This book sheds light on the challenges Anne faced in a society that did not accept same-sex relationships. It is heartbreaking to witness the lengths Anne had to go through to keep her relationships hidden from the world. Throughout the story, a mix of joy and sadness is evoked as Anne's longing for love and companionship becomes evident.
In the second part of the book, Anne finally finds true love with Ann Walker, but further details are revealed in the subsequent book, which I am yet to read. The emotions that Anne experiences resonate deeply within me, as I can feel her pain and solitude in longing for a genuine connection. The impact of her relationship with M, who chose to marry for financial reasons, is also explored, highlighting the manipulation and false hope Anne endured.
Anne's commitment to M put her life on hold, and she regretted not pursuing other relationships in the hope of a future with M. However, it becomes increasingly clear that M prioritized money and a certain lifestyle over Anne's love. The affair between them had a profound impact on Anne's life, and she referred M relationship with her husband as a form of legal prostitution.
What struck me most about Anne's story is the profound loneliness she experienced and her desperate need for true love. All she desired was to be loved and chosen by someone. It is disheartening to witness the restrictions placed on women during that time, where marriage was often their main goal and their aspirations were limited.
I refrain from revealing too much about the book, as I believe it is best experienced firsthand. However, there is a pivotal event that occurs, causing Anne's love and admiration for M to wane. This event leads to a shift in Anne's perspective, and she begins to question the nature of her relationship with M.
"The Secret Diaries of Miss Anne Lister" left me feeling both saddened by Anne's loneliness and inspired by her resilience. It is a powerful reminder of the importance of genuine love and acceptance. I highly recommend reading this book to truly appreciate Anne's journey.
I also want to mention that there is a second book that continues Anne's story, where Ann Walker play a big role in Anne's life and ultimately becomes Anne's wife. Additionally, there is a movie adaptation that I have yet to watch, but I plan to do so once I have read the second book.
I would like to express my gratitude to Helena Whitbread for her dedication in deciphering Anne's secret code, providing us with a valuable glimpse into the lives of lesbian and queer women during that time. I believe this book serves as a reminder that we should strive for a world where individuals can freely express their true selves and embrace their sexual orientation without fear of judgment or prejudice. This book also made me think about all the women who are afraid to be themselves and be with whom they want because they fear being judged by their family and friends for their attraction to women. I hope that one day these women can truly be themselves, find freedom, and align with their true sexual orientation. I hope they do not waste their lives and years with someone they do not love, unable to express their true sexual orientation due to fear of judgment. May these women find freedom and one day align with their true sexual orientation.
