Story
Can’t Hurt Me, David Goggins’ smash hit memoir, demonstrated how much untapped ability we all have but was merely an introduction to the power of the mind. In Never Finished, Goggins takes you inside his Mental Lab, where he developed the philosophy, psychology, and strategies that enabled him to learn that what he thought was his limit was only his beginning and that the quest for greatness is unending.

Another great Goggins story
Reviewed: 01-12-24
It took me a while to get thru this book. It's dense with information. I listened to it one chapter at a time, then took time to digest it. It was fantastic to see the evolution of Goggins' maturity. To see the reality of ware on his body. But he always kept his mind strong. It never degenerated or broke down. It only gets stronger. This shows all of us that we can do it, no matter our hand we were dealt.

Story
When it comes to sex, common wisdom holds that men roam while women crave closeness and commitment. But in this provocative, headline-making book, Daniel Bergner turns everything we thought we knew about women's arousal and desire inside out. Drawing on extensive research and interviews with renowned behavioral scientists, sexologists, psychologists, and everyday women, he forces us to reconsider long-held notions about female sexuality.

Lots of scientific info, but it never gets anywhere. Just as the author finally gets to some interesting and valuable info, the book ends. The narrator is slow. Had to listen at 1.5x to get thru the book in a reasonable time.

Story
This Pulitzer Prize-winning history of World War II chronicles the dramatic rise and fall of the Japanese empire, from the invasion of Manchuria and China to the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Told from the Japanese perspective, The Rising Sun is, in the author’s words, "a factual saga of people caught up in the flood of the most overwhelming war of mankind, told as it happened - muddled, ennobling, disgraceful, frustrating, full of paradox."

WWII from the Japanese perspective (mostly)
Reviewed: 10-04-21
An interesting look at WWII from the Japanese perspective. The writer seems to mostly do a good job at keeping things in frame of the Japanese perspective, but at times he strays away and you think you’re suddenly listening to the American side of the Pacific theatre. Overall, I enjoyed it. The narrator is a little monotonous, and it doesn’t go over well when he tries to impersonate softer/weaker voices.

Despite the tumor-shrinking medical miracle that has bought her a few years, Hazel has never been anything but terminal, her final chapter inscribed upon diagnosis. But when a gorgeous plot twist named Augustus Waters suddenly appears at Cancer Kid Support Group, Hazel’s story is about to be completely rewritten. The Fault in Our Stars is insightful, bold, irreverent, and raw. It brilliantly explores the funny, thrilling, and tragic business of being alive and in love.

The Best Book I’ve listened to!
Reviewed: 07-02-20
This is an exceptional documentary of the Nazi regime and Hitler’s rise to power, and his fall. There was little subjective commentary from the author, until the last few chapters. For the most part, it was strictly factual. Grover Gardner was the perfect narrator for this book!

Story
For David Goggins, childhood was a nightmare--poverty, prejudice, and physical abuse colored his days and haunted his nights. But through self-discipline, mental toughness, and hard work, Goggins transformed himself from a depressed, overweight young man with no future into a US Armed Forces icon and one of the world's top endurance athletes. The only man in history to complete elite training as a Navy SEAL, Army Ranger, and Air Force tactical air controller, he went on to set records in numerous endurance events.

Outstanding! Book/Podcast combo!
Reviewed: 09-30-19
I was skeptical at first, because Goggins wasn’t reading the book. But it’s for the better. Goggins is a powerful speaker, who uses his passion and drive to get to you. He can’t give you the same thing from a script. Adam is an excellent reader, and was able to tell the story well.
The idea to hold a mini-Podcast between chapters was amazing! It allowed you to hear explanation from Goggins, which you wouldn’t get from reading the paper version.

How did a New York-born, Jewish, former-atheist novelist and screenwriter - a winner of multiple Edgar Awards, whose books became films with Clint Eastwood and Michael Douglas - find himself at the age of 50 being baptized and confessing Jesus as Lord? That's a tale worth telling.

Not what I expected, but good.

The title, and marketing for the book led me to believe this was going to be a spiritual journey of a Jew finding Christ. But, it was actually Andrew Klavan’s autobiography, concentrated more around his childhood, strained relationship with his father, and growing up, with sprinkles of religion throughout. It was well read by Andrew, and while a little long-winded at times, still kept me engaged.
