Unpacking her belongings in her new hometown of Portland, Oregon, herbalist and reformed alchemist Zoe Faust can't help but notice she's picked up a stowaway. Dorian Robert-Houdin is a living, breathing three-and-half-foot gargoyle - not to mention a master of French cuisine - and he needs Zoe's expertise to decipher a centuries-old text. Zoe, who's trying to put her old life behind her, isn't so sure she wants to reopen her alchemical past... until the dead man on her porch leaves her no choice.

Love Dorian!
Reviewed: 01-31-21
The first few minutes were a little slow then it instantly picked up and was exciting, captivating and really interesting! I am not going into detail as it would give the story away. But I will say excellent details! I love Dorian! And I especially love the vegan food descriptions. I’m ready to turn vegan! And what fun that you have a few of the recipes on an attachment. I’ve already printed them out. I always wondered why so many authors seem to fixate on food but I guess that is our culture. In this case though I loved it! Starting the next book now. I appreciate the preview on this one.

Loved the book but the constant wailing was annoying. I understand that there was a lot of misery but I stopped listening for a while be cause of the narration. Maybe a little less dramatic voice.

Story
Amid the turbulent, faction-ridden late reign of the fearsome Henry, eager high-spirited Catherine Howard caught the king's eye - but not before she had been the sensual plaything of at least three other men. Ignorant of her past, seeing only her youthful exuberance and believing that she could make him happy, he married her - only to discover, too late, that her heart belonged to his gentleman usher Tom Culpeper.

Story
It is the spring of 1527. Henry VIII has come to Hever Castle in Kent to pay court to Anne Boleyn. He is desperate to have her. For this mirror of female perfection he will set aside his queen and all Cardinal Wolsey's plans for a dynastic French marriage. Anne Boleyn is not so sure. She loathes Wolsey for breaking her betrothal to the Earl of Northumberland's son, Harry Percy, whom she had loved. She does not welcome the king's advances; she knows that she can never give him her heart.

Politics and bias will always endure
Reviewed: 06-10-17
I'm really glad to have read this book. I feel it does offer a different insight into Anne Boleyn. It reminds me of the Aniston/Jolie drama of our day as well as the disrespect given to our current President with fabrications and lies by the media. Unfortunately we will never know the real truth as the recording of history is based on the "version of truth" seen by the recorder and their biases. There will always be corruption in the world. So this was a refreshing account of what may have really happened.
