There’s definite character growth
Reviewed: 08-02-24
Editing my review to add another star because the main character does show a lot of growth by the end. Fingers crossed that continues into the next book.
Original Review: My friend said keep going they get really good but Persephone…gah. I can’t like her. She’s so dramatic and such a brat. Always looking for a fight. Literally every time she doubted Hades he had a good answer, so constantly being suspicious of him is annoying as hell. Gets mad at him for not telling her everything about his centuries-long life and then keeps secrets from him. Gets mad at other characters for unethical choices but then she makes unethical choice.

Story
Persephone is the Goddess of Spring by title only. The truth is, since she was a little girl, flowers have shriveled at her touch. After moving to New Athens, she hopes to lead an unassuming life disguised as a mortal journalist. Hades, God of the Dead, has built a gambling empire in the mortal world and his favorite bets are rumored to be impossible. After a chance encounter with Hades, Persephone finds herself in a contract with the God of the Dead and the terms are impossible: Persephone must create life in the Underworld or lose her freedom forever.

I’m trying so hard to love these
Reviewed: 08-02-24
The story itself is fun and intriguing. Hades is great but even though I’m trying so hard to like Persephone, she grates on my last nerve. She’s whiney, needy, and naggy. She goes back and forth on everything. The constant complaining, looking for a fight, and thinking the worst is exhausting. Gah! I hope it gets better in the next book but in the 3rd Chapter it’s more of the same. Don’t call me this or that but I don’t ask me what I want you call me. 🤦🏽♀️ She’s snooty and at the same time always insecure.

Meh
Reviewed: 02-22-24
I love the stories but sometimes the things the main characters say make me cringe. Julia is hard to like sometime. She’s a great and kind but then a snob and judgmental at the wrong times. She’s horrible to her maid and then annoyed when her maid gives it back. Brisbane in this book is borderline aggressive and abusive. It’s hard to listen to. It’s not cute enemies to lovers it’s appalling really. The constant bickering is repetitive and frustrating…we’re partners, we’re not, we are, we’re not. He disregards her and dismisses her constantly as though she is nothing. I might still try the next book but if continues on the same theme as this one I’m out.

Victim over and over again…
Reviewed: 05-25-23
It’s a good story but my god how many times can someone be a victim and do nothing about it! Gah…not sure how much more I can take of it but trying to see this series through. Narrator is wonderful.
