Story
In the deep woods of East Texas, Henry supports his family by selling bootleg liquor. It's all he can do to keep his compassionate but ailing mother and his stepfather - a fanatical grassroots minister with a bruising rhetoric - from ruin. But they have no idea they've become the obsession of the girl in the woods. Andoned and nearly feral, Eve has been watching them, seduced by the notion of family - something she's known only in the most brutal sense. Soon she can't resist the temptation to get close.

Trying too hard
Reviewed: 05-21-18
This just felt like a book that was trying too hard to win the title of "Most Tragic Tale Ever". Parts of it were interesting, though, and I think the narrator did well at matching the tone of the material he was given.

Story
An incredible but true account of achieving one of the most awe-inspiring midlife physical transformations ever. In October 2006, the night before he was to turn 40, Rich experienced a chilling glimpse of his future. Nearly 50 pounds overweight and unable to climb the stairs without stopping, he saw where his sedentary lifestyle was taking him. Most of us look the other way when granted such a moment of clarity, but not Rich.

Practical, helpful dietary advice
Reviewed: 05-31-16
I'm giving this book 4 stars, mostly because at the very end he gives some very specific and practical nutrition information and advice. He even mentions some brand names, which a lot of authors seem hesitant to do, but which I find very helpful.

Story
In 2007, the Center for Automation in Nanobiotech (CAN) outlined the hardware and software platform that would one day allow robots smaller than human cells to make medical diagnoses, conduct repairs, and even self-propagate. In the same year, a simple pill, it had been discovered, could wipe out the memory of any traumatic event. At almost the same moment in humanity's broad history, mankind had discovered the means for bringing about its utter downfall - and the ability to forget it ever happened.

...intricate and sometimes surprising backstory...
Reviewed: 03-04-16
I had a hard time staying focused on listening at times in the beginning, but I stuck with it, and ended up loving it as much as Wool.It starts off seeming like a completely different story, but it ends up weaving an intricate and sometimes surprising backstory.
I don't know if I can wait 3 weeks for my next credit, to listen to the next one!

If you can get past the gasps...

What didn’t you like about Joyce Bean’s performance?
You have to REALLY want this information, to get through the narration. The narrator makes a really irritating little gasp sound after about half of the sentences she says, and it is a real test of patience to get through more than ten minutes at a time. I found the information really interesting and useful, so I stuck it out. I will think twice before buying another book narrated by Joyce Bean, though.
