Story
Best-selling author Robyn Carr pens a captivating tale from her Virgin River series in Paradise Valley. Rick Scudder joined the Marine Corps with high hopes, but left with a broken spirit and a shattered body. I was Already Hooked on this Series
Reviewed: 02-14-20
I had been reading this series and saw the next book in the series on Audible. Maybe I already had preconceptions, but when I listened to this, I *tolerated* the narration. There are a lot of characters, so I want to give her the benefit of the doubt. But especially her cadence bothers me, more so than her character choices. I also want to state that I have listened to dozens of audiobooks, so the format is not the problem. I’ve also both read and listened to a book before, so that isn’t necessarily the problem, either.
However, I’m forging ahead and will see how it goes with the next book. Audible makes getting these books very convenient, and I love the story. If you started the series listening to the audiobooks, you may not have the same reservations I do. If you find yourself in the same boat as I am, don’t give up on the books, just maybe read them yourself instead.

Story
Ulysses S. Grant's life has typically been misunderstood. All too often he is caricatured as a chronic loser and an inept businessman or as the triumphant but brutal Union general of the Civil War. But these stereotypes don't come close to capturing him, as Chernow reveals in his masterful biography, the first to provide a complete understanding of the general and president whose fortunes rose and fell with dizzying speed and frequency.

Amazing and thoroughly enjoyable. There were a couple of things that made me want to check the text; i.e. "tight as a brick", which I have always heard as "tight as a tick", etc.
I agree with a previous reviewer that this audiobook should include the maps and photos included in the book.
Overall, wonderful book and great performance by the narrator. Absolutely worth the purchase.
