Story
Norma is a modern-day nomad. Living out of her van and teardrop trailer, she revels in self-reliance, solitude, and reading in the glorious peace of nature. Jovial, wise, and scrupulously honest, she's become an uplifting presence in the little town of Quindicott, Rhode Island, where bookseller Pen is thankful to have her part-time help. But it's Norma's other job, working as a housekeeper at the Finch Inn, that gets her into terrible trouble. Norma is accused of stealing jewels from a guest's room: the legendary Valentino Teardrops.

A little disappointed.

I have read all the other books in this series and was so excited to start this one and visit with the characters that feel like friends, but something was off this time. The character of Penelope didn't seem as warm as she did in past books. Her relationship with Jack in particular seemed to have cooled considerably. But even her interactions with her two best friends and her Aunt didn't feel as warm as they had been in the other books. The mystery itself was a good one and I always enjoy Penny's adventures in the past with Jack but this novel left me feeling disappointed.

Story
Twenty-six years ago, just before a series of brutal murders rocked the idyllic town of Bowers Inlet, Cassie Burke lost her family and nearly her own life to a transient befriended by her father. Back then, Cassie was a scared kid; now, she's a homicide cop. Back then, the suspect was caught and convicted; he died in prison. But now the killing has started again. And all signs indicate that the Bayside Strangler has come back for more.

A good listen

As I read in other reviews, the story was good but the narrator's voice didn't seem to go with the characters. Not that her voice was unpleasant, it just seemed too old for the main character, or maybe the wrong energy. I did still enjoy the book.
