Delightful!

I loved this book. Reading it was wonderful so I jumped at the chance to review the audio version and it was just delightful. The narrator did a brilliant job. There were quite a few different characters but she made them all sound quite distinct which must take a lot of talent. I would be happy to listen to her again. Although I received a free copy, this review is voluntary and if I had not thought it up to scratch I would have reported exactly that.

Beautifully read

I love Georgette Heyer books and this one was read so beautifully that it added to my enjoyment. However, this has been abridged! And that is frustrating as much of the charm of these books comes from the little details that unfortunately are the first to be deleted by some black hearted devil with a lack of appreciation.

Stunning narration
Reviewed: 06-24-19
The story was interesting but..... I found the bad language offputting, the characters more foolish than realistic and the plot unrealistic. This didn't stop me listening to the end though. It's probably not a book I would re- read., and I wouldn't buy the series but that's only my taste. I can understand why there is a series and even appreciate that others will enjoy it. But its not for me. However, The narration was brilliant! That man deserves a pay rise.

Story
It was a typical evening at a mall outside Portland, Maine. Three teenage friends waited for the movie to start. A boy flirted with the girl selling sunglasses. Mothers and children shopped together, and the manager at the video game store tended to customers. Then the shooters arrived. The chaos and carnage lasted only eight minutes before the killers were taken down. But for those who lived through it, the effects would last forever.

Story
"Family Treed" is 1.5 in my Big Uneasy series. This short story is my amuse bouche, a taste, a quick bite for my readers, a chance to check in on Nell and Alex (from Relatively Risky). Nell's not sure why the mob wants to have dinner with her. She is sure she wants a cop at her side. Alex wouldn't let Nell dine with the mob without him, despite much unease from his many siblings. But as the dark and stormy night's dinner progresses, Nell wonders if she's putting Alex's life in danger. Can they survive dinner with the killing cousins?

I love PBJ's books and this series is great but I found myself feeling relieved that this was only a short story thanks to the nasal whine of the narrators voice. She also had a very distracting habit of ignoring punctuation marks. Thankfully I also have it on Kindle

This is an excellent beginning to a very classy series. The narrator has a voice that is easy to listen to and complimented the story for the most part although assigning common accents to a lady of the aristocracy and to a member of the diplomatic service was an annoying mistake but overall this audiobook is worth having.

Story
Sassinak was 12 when the raiders came. That made her just the right age: old enough to be used, young enough to be broken. Or so the slavers thought. But Sassy turned out to be a little different from your typical slave girl. Maybe it was her unusual physical strength. Maybe it was her friendship with the captured Fleet crewman. Maybe it was her spirit. Whatever it was, it wouldn't let her resign herself to the life of a slave. She bided her time, watched for her moment. Finally it came, and she escaped.
