Story
Twenty-four-year-old Saeris Fane is good at keeping secrets. No one knows about the strange powers she possesses or the fact that she has been picking pockets and stealing from the Undying Queen's reservoirs for as long as she can remember. But a secret is like a knot. Sooner or later, it is bound to come undone. When Saeris comes face-to-face with Death himself, she inadvertently reopens a gateway between realms and is transported to a land of ice and snow. The Fae have always been the stuff of myth, of legend, of nightmares… but it turns out they're real.

Story
The year is 1087, and a pox is sweeping through the Italian city of Bari. When a lowly monk is visited by Saint Nicholas in his dreams, he interprets the vision as a call to serve the sick. But his superiors, and the power brokers they serve, have different plans for the tender-hearted Brother Nicephorus. Enter Tyun, a charismatic treasure hunter renowned for “liberating” holy relics from their tombs. The seven-hundred-year-old bones of Saint Nicholas are rumored to weep a mysterious liquid that can heal the sick, Tyun says.

Poor narration, weak story

Not a single likable character and the excessive number of plot twists were trying too hard to make yet another resort based thriller seem unique. Also for a story about a bunch of expats from different countries to all be narrated with generic American accents was just off putting.

Entertaining and unique Cinderella Story

Regency-style romance often gets redundant - this book is truly unique in its characters and plot. It is a very clever play on the cinderella story. And the descriptions of food are to die for for! Strongly recommend to any fans of period history, romance, and delicious food!

Unique retelling of old fae legends
Reviewed: 12-09-18
This was a very enjoyable listen. Many of the old Celtic myths are woven together into an original plot line. It has a clever, self-sufficient protagonist, unique world-building, adventure, and romance. This is well-crafted fantasy and worth the credit! Fans of Sarah J Maas would likely enjoy this, though it the story is nothing like Maas's work. Will definitely be listening to the second book - just wish that the rest of the series was available on Audible.

Sweet YA fantasy romance
Reviewed: 11-22-18
Overall this was a pleasant listen. As is often the case with a YA book, the characters lacked some depth and the story was a bit simplistic, but it was still an enjoyable listen. It was the classic magic and adventure filled quest where two characters fall in love kind of story. I found the dual narration to be distracting as the characters voices sounded so different between the two narrators. All that being said, I wish the next two books in the trilogy were available on audible because I would definitely listen to them!

A unique modern fantasy
Reviewed: 11-11-18
Overall this was a good listen, it just wasn't for me. The world building was creative and unlike any other "urban fantasy" I have come across. There is some interesting mythology and characters, but I just never really connected with the protagonist so it was only a 4-star for me. Otherwise, entertaining with some soul-mate, instant-love kind of romance. #modernfantasy #adventure #instalove #tagsgiving #sweepstakes
