Victim mentality
Reviewed: 01-29-24
Her voice was nasally and had the inflection you use when talking to a child. The content was good at first then fell off the rails when she started focusing on the victim mentality. Blaming everyone and everything in your life instead of owning your unhealthy thoughts and misconceptions is the victim mentality. The author mislabeled the intent of this book.

Wonderful series!

Can’t believe I have to wait again for the next one 😭😉. This series is like coming home. I’ve had so many life changing events happen while reading/listening to this series over the years. Every time a new book comes out I start from the beginning and catch things I didn’t the first several 😜 times. Ms. Porter is great. I could expound on some errors that others have mentioned but I just love her voice as these characters too much to complain. No one is perfect and I’m sure she doesn’t listen to the whole series before reading the next installment. The only complaint for this novel is the lack of translation several times. Gabaldon had always been very good about giving the translation without it being awkward where there were several instances in this novel that there were no translations. With an audiobook it’s hard to just look it up. It leaves me wondering if I missed a subtle clue because there was no translation. Still can’t wait for the next book!

Outlander introduces an exhilarating world of heroism and breathtaking thrills as one woman is torn between past and present, passion and love. All time favorite still
Reviewed: 02-01-22
Decided to listen to this series for third time (I’ve read them twice) and it’s still my favorite. I’ve gotten away from romances in the past decade but this one still speaks to me. Ms. Porter was the perfect voice for this story and does an amazing job with the characters. As this was one of my first audiobooks she may have ruined me for the rest :) Ms Gabaldon descriptions take you right into the moment without droning on or being too syrupy. I wish I could do this series more justice but that’s why I read them, not write them. Do not hesitate to listen to this one! You will not be disappointed!

Story
Already cited on the floor of Congress and discussed in the corridors of the Pentagon as a book all Americans should read, One Second After is the story of a war scenario that could become all too terrifyingly real. Based upon a real weapon - the Electro Magnetic Pulse (EMP) - which may already be in the hands of our enemies, it is a truly realistic look at the awesome power of a weapon that can destroy the entire United States.

These are the times we live in right now and we are so woefully unprepared. This is a must read for every American (born or naturalized)! We’ve been asleep at the wheel for far too long. It’s time to wake up and take notice of why there is a generation called “the greatest” and start learning from them.

In these uncertain of mid 2020 this was a very intriguing read. The story telling reminded me strongly of the way Stephen King seems to ramble on with the narrative. That is why I gave 4 stars. There were a few times at the beginning that I did find myself daydreaming through. The character development is wonderful and I appreciated the way the author included more characters at the beginning of the story to use the their point of view and nothing more. The narrator is superb and sounds familiar. I think I picked the book because I had heard the narrator before. I will definitely listen to this book again.
