Story
Walking in My Joy is a collection of electric stories by the one and only, super hilarious Jenifer Lewis. Her commentary on what’s happening in the world today, told through her outrageous real-life adventures, will have you laughing out loud, while her insightful messages touch your soul. A self-described “traveling fool and nature freak,” Jenifer takes listeners with her all over the world, from Cape Town to Bali; Washington, DC, to the Serengeti; Mongolia to St. Petersburg; and Argentina to Antarctica to demonstrate how she walks in her joy by seeking pleasure in everyday encounters.

Only as Jenifer Lewis Can!!!

Another fine read by Jenifer Lewis. She continues to tell it like it is! She shares more of her life as it pertains to her current life. It was great to hear her share her interactions with “regular” folks. She tells a great story! I laughed right a long with her. Thank you for sharing your story and reasons why we need to fight and stand up for ourselves!

Story
One of five children, Pat watched as her alcoholic mother struggled to get by on charity, cons, and petty crimes. At age seven, Pat was taught to roll drunks for money. At 12, she was targeted for sex by a man eight years her senior; by 13, she was pregnant. By 15, Pat was a mother of two. Alone at 16, Pat was determined to make a better life for her children. But with no job skills and an eighth-grade education, her options were limited. She learned quickly that hustling and humor were the only tools she had to survive.

Had to reread again because I WANTED TOO!

With Ms. Pats television sitcom out I wanted and felt the need to listen to this again. I am so amazed at the story of Ms. Pat. This book shows the power of perseverance, strength and courage.
Chapters 3 and 4 truly tugged at my heart because I am an educator and I hate that Ms. Pat had to endure teachers and leaders that didn’t try to build that relationship with their students to know what was truly going on in their lives. I believe those chapters are teachable ones that can truly help us learn how we can be and do better for our children.
This story starts out very rough and sad but shows us the true power of love in the end.

This was a great memoir by Gina Yashere. Loved hearing Gina read her memoir. Her intonation, inflections, and sense of humor kept through the pages.
