Who is this man that looks like an angel and acts like the devil? So many women just fall for him and stay with him. With that kind of face and charisma he should have been in politics.

The unlikable protagonist
Reviewed: 11-15-23
I did not like this protagonist she was just ditzy I don't get it. the story was good I really didn't see the end coming at all but between the narrator just not showing much emotion and the main character being seemingly soulless half the time I just had a very hard time getting into this one. The main thing though is I'm from a place only a few miles out of Charlotte NC and the entire book i was thinking "no way is this a NC accent" and somewhere near the end she mentioned growing up im the Midwest which somewhat redeemed it for me but I was upset the entire time thinking they were trying to portray this accent as North Carolinian. Plus no spoilers but she never heard of a voice recorder so

Story
Photographer Isla Wilson is thrilled she's landed her dream job, but the clients who hired her are getting stranger by the day. It sounded so perfect—a month's assignment at the lush Scottish Highlands property of architect Alban McGregor, and his wife, Jessica. But in the woods, there's a playhouse with a chilling history. Two years ago, the McGregors' daughter Elodie was abducted and then died in that playhouse. The townspeople insist her abductor had to be a stranger in their town. Alban refuses to knock the playhouse down, even keeping a picture of it on his wall.

Thank you for a wonderful story and also for narrating it yourself. I've only heard one other book of yours and though it was a great story the narrator made it very difficult to get through. I'm glad you made the decision to do it yourself this time and you are wonderful at it. Love your voice and you sound just as I imagine Frankie would.

Great Story
Reviewed: 11-07-22
I love the story and the narrator but I was having issues with a faint click after dental sentences throughout the book as if it were being paused after each sentence during recording. I could be wrong about the cause but it was doing the same thing on all of my devices so it wasn't my device. That wasn't as distracting as the narrator deliberately speaking every word at times clipping each word as if it had a period behind it instead of the cadence of normal sentence flow but otherwise she did a great job voicing other characters and conveying the emotions or lack thereof that were written. I would definitely recommend this book though.
