Story
Apple, Massachusetts, is rotten to the core. Every fall, when the orchards ripen and the leaves begin to die, there are murders. We know it, and we accept it. It's the price we pay for living in Apple. Families mourn, but no one is ever caught. Now, there's a body in the woods, and the cycle is starting again. People bruise easily in Apple. Finding a murdered and mutilated girl plunges Jackson Gill into the middle of a decades-old horror. For Jackson, the newest murders become personal.

I have to admit, I am pretty good at guessing an ending, but this one totally got me. The story kept me listening with great characters. Then the ending. BAM.
Excellent.

I really don’t know how to rate this. I was very interested in the story, so was excited to listen.
I couldn’t understand the narrator. He spoke with an accent to make the story sound authentic and keep it exciting, but I could only understand a few words. I tried to follow, but got lost and didn’t know what was going on.

Story
Convinced they are the victims of a sick, practical joke, Heidi and her three friends are resigned to spending the night at The Scarry Inn, even though the atmosphere is anything but welcoming. Surely the owners, Dick and Thelma Scarry, are simply trying to drum up business for their new motel by terrifying the guests. But when Kara is found brutally murdered, they realize the danger is real, and they must find their way to safety before the secrets of the inn claim another victim.

I enjoyed the plot and idea of a group getting stuck and thrust into a bad situation. What I didn’t like was that I felt it took too long to get to the part I was interested in. Once we get to the interesting part that really captures my attention, it ended. I would like to see less build up and more bang when the story gets really good.

Story
Austin James debuts with a wonderfully twisted story that is completely bizarre and entirely endearing. Mixing and melding mutant creatures with tones of true romance, it's served with enough grotesqueries to satisfy the most gluttonous of minds. Also included: an array of short stories that take the listener even further into the mind of James’ obscure view within the word-world.

I listened to the stories and the one that kept my attention the most was the first one. It is the one the title refers to.
I have to be honest. It is relatively bizarre, but done in a way that I wanted to listen and enjoyed it. I’ll never look at my appliances the same way again.

Story
In The Meaning of Blood: and Other Tales of Perversity, award-winning author and Edgar Allan Poe scholar Chuck Caruso combines his deep roots in the American Gothic with his own contemporary sense of macabre humor. These 15 stories of dark fiction range from crime thrillers to western noir to grotesque horror. Each twisted tale displays Caruso's unique blend of wry prose, feverish storytelling, and tragically flawed characters discovering that even the most innocent encounter can lead to death. Or sex. Or both.

Story
Jack Palms is more interested in tuning up his vintage Mustang than starring in action films these days. Along with his failed marriage and plenty of bad habits, Jack abandoned his acting career three years ago, and life’s just the way Jack wants it: boring. But picking up where Jack Wakes Up left off, Jack now finds himself in the middle of a whodunit in the seedy red-light district of San Francisco’s North Beach. Young girls, shipped as merchandise from Balkan countries and sold to city heavyweights, are turning up dead, and no one knows why.

I completely enjoyed this story. Great characters and the story was easy to follow. It is a story that you can just relax with and enjoy it without effort.
I was excited when I read that there were going to have different people doing the voices of the different characters. The voices weren’t great and it seemed the quality of the audio was not great. Sounds like they recorded it in someone’s basement on a Saturday afternoon.

I had a lot of fun with this one. I figure there are 3 types of books. There are the books that you don’t enjoy at all, the books that are good, and then there are the books you can’t stop reading and feel sad when you are done. This is that book. I couldn’t wait to listen each day. I would get home from work and just sit in my car and listen.
Great characters that will have you cheering for them as they encounter this nightmare.

No adoption papers exist, and all she has to go on is her possible birthday: November 22. In the small town of Meredith, California, Megan’s search takes on a dire, domino effect - one woman has already been murdered as a result of her inquiries.

I always have a bit of a struggle following the story when I start. New characters and new plot. This was no different, but the author caught my interest quickly. Once it captured my focus, it just got better and better. Great characters, each with their own lives and challenges. I really enjoyed this story.
