Cold War backstory on Jackson Lamb - the highlight of my 2024 year has been the Slough House audio book series.
Until Nick, I was a die hard Trevanian fan.
Truly a master of complete characters, minutia that matters and human foibles, my evenings make the rest of the day fade & pale.
Seldom does television adequately capture the essence & scope of exquisite writing - AppleTV+ Slow Horse series is truly MUST SEE TV.
PERIOD.

Story
What happens when an old spook loses his mind? Does the Service have a retirement home for aging spies who can no longer remember their secrets are secret? Or are senile spies taken care of in a different, more permanent fashion? These are the paranoid concerns of David Cartwright, a Cold War–era operative and one-time head of MI5 who is sliding into dementia, and questions his grandson, River, must answer now that the spy who raised him sometimes forgets to wear pants. But River, himself an agent at Slough House, MI5’s outpost for disgraced spies, has other things to worry about.

Rarified air - a worthy admission to the genre

The author is truly a talent, the narrator was fantastic!
I been searching for years to supplement my collection of works by Trevanian - without reservation, Nich Herron has assumed this lofty perch. My time has been well invested & rewarded in kind.
Because of the Apple TV+ series, I wanted to learn backstory for the eclectic unit.
My mind was fertile soil, and the storyline took root deep & quickly.
My regret is this has ended, I can only hope - and pray - for more of the same.
