Story
Earth failed. In a desperate bid to escape, the spaceship Enkidu and its captain, Heorest Holt, carried its precious human cargo to a potential new paradise. Generations later, this fragile colony has managed to survive, eking out a hardy existence. Yet life is tough, and much technological knowledge has been lost. Then strangers appear. They possess unparalleled knowledge and thrilling technology–and they've arrived from another world to help humanity’s colonies. But not all is as it seems, and the price of the strangers' help may be the colony itself.

Quite the twist and turn at the end!
Reviewed: 01-04-24
If book one introduced an alternative evolutionary storyline at say a level one of complexity (Kerns world) then book number two introduced level three on Damascus and skipped ahead to level five with planet Nod.
So with that framework, this book seems to start with a level one story all over again while also telling the story of a separate struggling human colony. You start with another species/Kern-like origin story on Rourke - By the end you realize there is a level ten complexity at play here - something no one can truly understand or categorize.
I really liked it overall - definitely different than the first two books that drove the story through evolution and the struggle against the life killing cosmos (although that was present too) but this was more of a mystery.

A pandemic of fatherlessness is well addressed in these chapters. The various mental health issues being generated by this pandemic are also outlined here. Finally, the many terrible and worldly substitution solutions are called out. Kris offers a biblical, and also profoundly accurate, solution to the real problems of our society.

Story
Leland Gaunt opens a new shop in Castle Rock called Needful Things. Anyone who enters his store finds the object of his or her lifelong dreams and desires: a prized baseball card, a healing amulet. In addition to a token payment, Gaunt requests that each person perform a little "deed", usually a seemingly innocent prank played on someone else from town. These practical jokes cascade out of control, and soon the entire town is doing battle with itself. Only Sheriff Alan Pangborn suspects that Gaunt is behind the population's increasingly violent behavior.

Story
New Testament scholar N. T. Wright reveals how we have been misreading the Gospels for centuries, powerfully restoring the lost central story of the scripture: that the coronation of God through the acts of Jesus was the climax of human history. Wright fills the gaps that centuries of misdirection have opened up in our collective spiritual story, tracing a narrative from Eden to Jesus to today.

Now I understand the central message of the gospels which I have been searching for nearly 20 years. This is a gift of incredible value to the church. NT Wright’s work here will undoubtedly blessed millions in terms of both understanding and living out the meaning of Jesus’s life and teaching (the in between of his birth and death/resurrection).

Story
You can experience the baptism of the Holy Spirit...every day! "Are you filled with the Holy Spirit?" Sadly, there has been much division surrounding this one question. Many believe that the Holy Spirit in-dwells a person at the moment of their conversion. Others contest that baptism in the Holy Spirit is a separate experience altogether. Apostolic leader, theologian, and healing minister Randy Clark shares about how this controversial and often misunderstood experience can be accessible to all Christians - including you!

This book will give you a much stronger biblical, theological and historical perspective on the baptism. It might also challenge you in ways you were not expecting. It made me truly consider the cost of what I am asking for. My favorite quote from the book is actually when Randy quotes someone else but I think it’s sums this book up nicely:
“I think it is a waste of time for us Christians to look for power we do not intend to use: for might in prayer, unless we pray, for strength to testify, without witnessing; for power unto holiness, without attempting to live a holy life; for grace to suffer, unless we take up the cross; for power in service, unless we serve.”

Lukianoff and Haidt offer a comprehensive set of reforms that will strengthen young people and institutions, allowing us all to reap the benefits of diversity, including viewpoint diversity. This is a book for anyone who is confused by what’s happening on college campuses today, or has children, or is concerned about the growing inability of Americans to live and work and cooperate across party lines.

This book touches on a variety of topics but all with the same intention to discover why in the world we have lost our minds as a society.
Why have we degraded into dualistic thinking, why we lost ability to debate with one another maturely and why are we seeing a political battleground emerge on our colleges and universities.
