Story
In We’ve Got To Try, O’Rourke shines a spotlight on the heroic life and work of Dr. Lawrence Aaron Nixon and the west Texas town where he made his stand. The son of an enslaved man, Nixon grew up in the Confederate stronghold of Marshall, Texas before moving to El Paso, becoming a civil rights leader, and helping to win one of the most significant civil and voting rights victories in American history: the defeat of the all-white primary. His fight for the ballot spanned 20 years and twice took him to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Story
American diplomacy is under siege. Offices across the State Department sit empty while abroad, the military-industrial complex has assumed the work once undertaken by peacemakers. We're becoming a nation that shoots first and asks questions later. In an astonishing account ranging from Washington, DC, to Afghanistan, Pakistan, and North Korea in the years since 9/11, acclaimed journalist and former diplomat Ronan Farrow illuminates one of the most consequential and poorly understood changes in American history.

What an enlightening peek behind the scenes of our nation's diplomacy machine. It makes you realize how fragile it all is, and how one person's ego/personality can derail decades of work.
Ronan Farrow's vocabulary is superb, making me reach for a dictionary once or twice. His performance in reading this is equally as impressive.
I encourage everyone to listen to this book & thank the universe for our dedicated career diplomats!

Story
The true story of what took place in Donald Trump’s White House during a disastrous 2020 has never before been told in full. What was really going on around the president, as the government failed to contain the coronavirus and over half a million Americans perished? Who was influencing Trump after he refused to concede an election he had clearly lost and spread lies about election fraud? To answer these questions, Phil Rucker and Carol Leonnig reveal a dysfunctional and bumbling presidency’s inner workings in unprecedented, stunning detail.

So well done! The investigating, the writing, the presentation...it's all just so well done. The story of Trump's final year as president is harrowing. It's painful to realize how precarious it all was/is. This book helps you realize that we can't take any part of our democracy for granted.

So good that I lost myself in it & finished it in 2 days. Great story with just enough intrigue that you can believe it happened.
